Rearview Mirror Broke Off In Traffic Today

This is going to be one of those too wierd to believe stories but it is true. I was driving home today with the top down and the tunes playing, in my own little world and enjoying my new ride. I reached up to adjust the rearview mirror because I was doing the gangsta lean thing and could not see everything behind me. That is when it happened, the mirror just popped off. Little pieces of glass flew around the cockpit and I about crapped myself.

So I drove home with my rearview mirror just dangling like a very wierd air freshener. WTF I thought all the rest of the way home.

I told you it was too wierd to believe.

As a fellow 07 owner, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach when I read your thread. What BS !!!

Hope the windsheild does not have to be replaced; but seems to sound like it does.

You now understand why I did not like the idea of the mirror included with the power heated seats.
I almost lost my eye to the mirror in an accident. My dad's Lincoln was hit by a sleeping driver and the mirror broke off. Dangling like an air freshener it lodged between the air bag and my face when we hit the tree (airbag now partially deflated). Missed my eyeball by 2mm or less.
It easily breaks off in an accident!!!

Took my injured baby to the dealer today and they said that it was probably a flaw in the glass. They said they had never had anyone come in for this sort of problem before. The service guy said that sometimes they have to practically beat a mirror off with a hammer and have never broken the glass. I am sure he was exaggerating.

I have to take it back on Monday so they can swap the windshield out.

That's a bummer! I wonder if that 100+ degree heat had anything to do with it? Here's your chance to get the upgraded mirror with the temp and Homelink.

Service Manager told me that it was probably a flaw in the windshield. All I did was try to move it and it just snapped off and took a chunk of glass withit. Wierd deal.

I need to ask about the sticker, I am sure they will but I need to double check. My dealer is Payton Wright in Grapevine.

I don't understand the significance of asking for "new reg/insp stickers" - can someone explain?

When you installed the Webtronics sequentials, did you wire the lights so they do NOT sequence when you apply the brakes? Was that element of the install difficult? Time consuming? Thanks.

The decals we are referring to are required by law so if you have a windshield replaced, you need new decals to be legal. We have two, one for the vehicle inspection, and one for the license registration.

As far as the webtronics, I bought the plug and play set so I modified nothing. I just removed the old harness, swapped bulbs, and installed the new harness. Took me about 45 mins because I took my time to get it perfect. When I hit the brakes, the lights go through the sequence one time and then stay solid. No more sequencing unless I let off the brakes and then hit them again.

I hope that helps.

I was actually being a smarty pants, most younger guys these days are leaned way over trying to get every ounce of "Cool" out of the cruise. I would do it too, but my back can't handle it.

You sure it didn't have anything to do with a BMW going way slow in front of you and you trying to wave him off? I know how driving in Ft. Worth can be!!

Most glass places can easily remove your registration/inspection sticker and reapply them to the new windshield. If they bork it up, then they were just lazy.

Haha! Somedays I wish I had a big brush guard on my bumper so I could gently move some people over to the appropriate lane.
