Passport 8500 X50 gets pretty good reviews. I've got one for sale if interested since I live in the Communist Welfare of VA. Though the $40 radar detector fee is much cheaper than the $3500 speeding fine. (if doing 20+ over)

(Shameless plug)

I had an X50 and it fried, then they would not take it back so i am without a radar for now. But i am saving up for a Valentine 1 unit. It is an awesome unit and is well worth the $400 price tag.

So it seems the X50 is crappy.

Is there any product link to the OEM?

Maybe a listing of the devices would be great.

You really are an idle b*stard aren't you...lol

Google'd it for you...here:

http://www.valentine1.com/

This might be a better option here in Europe:
BTST Radar Detector

Both are technically illegal in Continental Europe BTW, but legal in the UK...

*lol* for once I wanted to be the nagging a$$ asking for something... ;-)

Why do you think the latter is better for Europe?

Because it's sold here and probably (!) is calibrated for the radar frequencies used over here...

Could somebody please explain why we need radar detectors? All you need to do is observe the speed limit and obey it ! Am I missing some aspect of their nesessity?

its just too expensive to not obey.

sometime you just drive and think you are drving by law, but are a few miles too fast and dang here you go...

Hmmm...

5-Band radar detection including the new Ku band complete protection (from my vague recollections this is the same type of radar used on the 'old' Soviet ZSU-23A radar-controlled AAA gun...I guess if it picks up F-16s at low level it should pick up our cars...).
Specially tuned 1000MHz bandwidths on both X and K frequencies.
Undetectable Stealth Technology.
360 degree radar protection - protects from all sides.
Separate audio and visual indicators - tells you exactly what you are detecting.
Full laser detection - detects the latest laser devices.

Yeah...sounds like it'll cover all the bases...

also found this one:

Well, I guess that explains why the cops in W.V. upon pulling you over for speeding will request your radar detector ( and you BETTER hand it to him) and right in front of you, will smash it to bits! I guess they don't like people who speed and break the law because they sometimes like to!
