You can see the AUX button on the right of the display here. The owner's manual had very little to say about it. Does anyone know if this controls a set of RCA inputs on the back of the head unit, or is it some proprietary plug? I have an iPod, and since I can know longer use my cassette adapter in the new Mustang, I'm hoping I can rig up a direct input if this AUX thing pans out. Thanks for any info...

i dunno for sure. i would like to say it would be for the addition of a CD changer, but i maybe it's possible to use an iPod. i know we've gone over this topic before of iPods and if it's possible to use them, i just don't remember what the answer was.

you can probably search the forums and find out really quick though.

You might be in luck with a Dension interface either way. This head unit might be different however.

Check out Dension IPod Connector

As per the Owne'rs manual, I think the AUX SRC is just for like satellite radio or something...?

Unless you own an iPod already (proudly I can say I don't), there's now no need to buy one. Just burn 6 MP3 cds with gosh knows how many songs and play them on the MP3 compatible CD player.

At an average of 4 MB per song that would be about 1,050 songs total. (700MB/CD X 6 = 4.2 GB)/4MB

You can also further compress MP3 files, as the new Shaker system can read compressed MP3 files.

No need to buy one, unless Ford has figured out a way to remove the Shaker so I can take it with me to the office, on airplanes, or while working out. Otherwise, using the iPod with some kind of aux input is still the better solution.

MP3 is an audio compression format, so MP3 files are already compressed. There is no such thing as compressed MP3s. The file size is determined by bitrate, stereo mode and sample rate.

i hope its not for an ipod. i would much rather just use mp3 cds and have the AUX for satalite radio. XM or Sirius would be a real nice addon over a ipod addon.

I have an MP3 player, I should of noted... just NOT an iPod - it's this cute little Panasonic unit below and it's only used when I jog or exercise. I am just proud to have bought a brand OTHER than Apple, lol (I don't know why either)

Woo hoo, not an iPod

Well, since my iPod holds all my 5100+ songs, it's a much better solution than a bunch of MP3 CDs.

In any case, the thrust of the matter is can I get line-level signals to the head unit. From an iPod in my case, but you could just as easily be using a Nomad or MiniDisc player. I guess I'll just take out the unit when I get my car and have a look at the back.

Gonna have to agree on the iPOD issue...I have about 8500 songs on my iPOD...Anyways, good question, I was wondering the same thing...Would I be able to listen to my ipod? Yeah, I'm just gonna figure it out when I get my hands on one.

i've seen adapters where you can have your MP3 player send the music you're listening to onto an unused radio frquency and your car plays the music like that. plus a car adapter is included so you don't have to worry about your battery dieing. althoug i've only seen it for the Dell Jukebox....

FM transmitters are a quick and easy solution for a lot of MP3 players out there - that's what I'm using today, but a) they don't match the sound quality of line level inputs, and B) they're difficult to use in areas where nearly every radio frequency is already used up.

Like Gene said, since the owners manual wasn't much help on this front, I think we're gonna have to wait until someone finds and tries out the aux input to be sure.

I have the same question as Gene, but sadly, I'm pretty sure that AUX is simply a satellite option.

I had a crappy Craig tape player, but the sweet thing was that it had a 1/8" input on it, that was so cool, I could plug my Discman directly into it...the same idea Gene was speaking of in regard to the Ipod. Too bad most stereos don't have that input.

Hey, don't you think that whatever the input was designed for...that there will be some sort of adapter to use other devices?

Has no one on this board asked a ford rep about this. If not I am going to the Orlando show this weekend and I will ask if an IPod or any mp3 player can use the aux port.. I should be able to let you know on Saturday August 28th.

05pony....did you ever get to ask a ford rep about the aux-in?

I'm an ipod owner too and unfortunately sound through an fm modulator is terrible. I figure that worst case scenerio since the shaker isn't intergrated into the dash you could always replace it with an alpine head unit with aux-in....you might throw the speaker amplification out of whack though....
