I started this topic so anybody who is considering buying one should wait until we get some info. about what is going on..

I will be installing mine today and will post up as soon as I'm done. I have the Shaker 1000 w/ the 6 CD changer.

i jsut installed mine. after reading everything on the subject here and on the pie forum i got mine to work 100% of the time. Guys just leave the 16 pin connector, the one with only 2 wires, unconnected and everything will be fine.

Did the same thing... left the 16-pin connected disconnected.

The only down side is that the radio display stays in "night mode" (dimmed) all the time... no big deal though.

i can deal with that as well. when im lsitining to sirius or using my phones mp3 player it wont show the title on the screen anyway, only on the sirius reciever or my phone screen

does it do that in your f150 as well?

No. I have the 16 pin connector hooked up and it has worked since I installed it. However the "Audiophile" head unit in the F-150 is defaulting back to FM every time I restart. Wish I knew why.

If this issue continues. Maybe we should have a sticky with just the folks having issues, and also those having to leave the plug dis-connected. Is it possible they messed up all 200?
Just a thought...I'd like to know out of 200 how many have these issues.:(

I'll install mine tomorrow, but Im also relocating the battery, and wont finish that until mid week, so no power at the moment for me to confirm this problem or not.

No idea if mine has any issues or not. I didn't bother to reconnect Ford's 16-pin connector, because I don't really care if my radio display has the "dim" functionality or not (to clarify, it's dimmed all the time - but still very readable).

I could reconnect the 16-pin and see what happens, but I really don't feel like pulling the dash apart again.

PIE has said on their website that the 12-volt adapters aren't necessarily "always on," which would potentially cause an issue (apparently, if they aren't in use, the vehicle's battery saver feature will cut the power to them).

I don't have that issue though, since the 12-volt outlet that I'm tapped into is the same one I use to plug the iPod into while in use, so that 12-volt will always have constant power when the iPod is on.

As far as sound quality goes, I'm getting the same sound quality that I get when I play mp3 CDs in the Shaker. I had been using the iTrip, but couldn't get reception at all (we have WAY too many radio stations where I live). So for me, it's a huge improvement... so far, I'm completely satisfied with the product.

I'll keep you posted as the days go by... in case any issues come up. But at least for now, it's all good :-D

According to the Ford wiring diagram, the two wires in the 16-pin connector are

Pin: 15
Circuit: 1847 (WH/OG)
Circuit function: Medium speed CAN +

Pin: 16
Circuit: 1848 (PK/OG)
Circuit function: Medium speed CAN -

It looks like they are part of the Module Communications Network that connect the Smart Junction Box to the Radio and the Instrument Cluster.

hmmm interesting. if thats so that makes a lot of sense. That would explain why it is always dimmed now. If the headlights are controlled by the cluster then they r responsible for dimming the lights. it needs to tell the radio they arent on and now it cant

The two wires do control the speed volume function. I checked it today on the way into town. With the 16-pin harness unplugged, I turned the speed volume up to 7 and could hear no difference in the volume when I slowed down. On the way back, I plugged in the harness and I could tell that the speed volume was on.

ok so why then does it also control the dimmer function. there must be a way to "trick" it into thinknig its plugged in.

Because it is a communications network. CAN stands for Controller Area Network, this is how all the facny do dads in a car work. Instead of running separate wires to each gadget, then only need to run 2 wires around the car. Then everthing can talk/listen to the main computer and get controlled. It saves lots of wire, lots of weight, and lots of cost.

The main reason I went for the PIE adapter was to keep the speed sensitive volume, with a vert that is very important. If I have to leave the 2 wires disconnected it is no good to me.

Mine arrives today, and I will wait a bit to rip everything out for the install..

Speaking of Convertibles, don't forget that in dim mode, I can almost guarantee you that you won't be able to read the radio on a sunny day with the top down.

Update, I got in my car this morning to go to work, it has been sitting for like 20 hours, and the headphone icon came up with the 16 pin harness still plugged in. So far, so good.

I emailed Logjam support this morning. I asked them what would happen if the car lost power (Battery Dead or disconnected). Here is their answer.

"Whenever power is removed altogether from the vehicle, like the battery
disconnected, it is a property of the Mustang radio to lose all its
programming, including the recognition of the FRD04-AUX. There is nothing
that can be done about this except redesign the Mustang radio. Consequently,
reinstalling the FRD04-AUX will be required."

The unit I ordered is supposed to ship out tomorrow, so I will decide later on whether to return the device or just deal with the issues.

convertible? i cant read my radio screen dimmed during the day in my coupe lol
