Painting the steering wheel Pony insert?

Has anybody tried carefully masking the Pony and Bar (and the airbag cover around the insert) and spraying the black background silver so it looks a little more like the '10 insert?

There were some posts a while back from folks who had taken the insert out and modified it, but I don't think I want to try that.

I've never seen it before but I don't see why it can't be done. I know a bunch of folks have painted their center stack, speaker trim, and window switch plates and were pretty pleased with the results. Watchdevil has done all three. He didn't paing the steering wheel pony insert though; but he did scrap off all the black leaving the aluminum behind.

Update for me... That bare aluminum has been hard to keep nice and polished. It scratches too easily. I am switching to something else real soon.
