Does this unit allow the song on the Ipod to be shown on the headunit?

Yes you see the song info through the head unit. Everything is done through the factory radio. You could throw the ipod in the trunk if the cable were long enough cause you don't need it. I'm gonna go take some pics once my camera charges of the head unit in action.

Once you have the stereo unplugged plug the "peripheral" plugs into the back of the radio. There are two total. You use the factory plug for the slot farthest right (if the head unit is facing you). It should look like this for now.

Next you place the peripheral unit in the back of the center console area. Now the factory plugs that were originally in the head unit will connect to female connectors that are on the peripheral wiring harness.

The you run the black ipod cable from the peripheral unit to where ever you want. I did mine through here.

The first pic is just to show you where the black cable connects to the peripheral piece.

The second pic is were I routed it through.

Forgot to mention this earlier. The peripheral unit has a total of 10 small switches. Sorry for the crappy pic but the switches are in that little red area. Anyway you have to have the first 3 switches down and the rest up. If you do not do this before you connect it to the head unit it will not work!!!!!!! One more thing unplug your car battery!!!!!

Now check to make sure it works before you put it all back together. Here's some pics of me going through options like shuffle, shuffle song, shuffle album, repeat, and what the ipod screen does once connected.

Here are some pics of song/artist/album display. Side note you can you scroll through all your playlists by name that you have in your ipod. This thing is freakin sweet.

I don't think the non-shaker will play MP3's... Does this mean I'm out of luck for this accessory?

Thumbs up Ipod install update

So far so good (knock on wood) I haven't had any problems with the adapter.

How's the actual audio quality?

Can you still use the iPod itself to select songs, etc., or is it "locked" when you're connected to the adapter and you HAVE to use the stereo controls?

Once the ipod is connected to the car it can only be controlled through the factory radio. As far as audio quality goes it's better than the pie adapter.

Because I'm such a huge fan of the Shaker systems... I'm swapping the head unit out for a Kenwood DPX701... it's double DIN, fits perfectly, and has a USB port right on the front. I don't have an ipod, but my wife does ( I have a Kenwood Keg instead ) but she can put her ipod right in the USB port and there is some control of the folders... I guess the menu doesn't show...

you can go to Crutchfield and read reviews on it... one talks about the ipod.

oh.... and there's cheaper places to buy this head unit.
