i decided i finally figured out what that plastic cover is for...to mod

i had a Zebra pen...these pens rock and have used them for a long time

found a drill bit that was a smidge bigger than the pen shaft itself....drilled into the plastic and BAM! pen holder...the clip of the pen keeps it in place

Ingenious!! I hate scrabbling around in that box looking for the writing stick so on Saturday I'll be doing mine. Thanks for a great idea.

Great mod, except for people with temperatures below freezing. We'll have to use a Pencil. Freezing weather & pens do not mix

Of course my car is in storage, so it doesn't really matter.. HEHE

I used a print of your pic to choose the point to drill. The plate that we drill through simply snaps out so it was very easy to do. Also I bought a Zebra pen since I couldn't find one around the house that had a fixed pocket clip. They are really good writing instruments! Thanks again for the idea.

I don't know how the manual trannys are laid out console wise, but for my auto I just put my pen in the little valley in front of the gear shift up against the main center console(houses the radio, temp *****, etc). The only time I have trouble with it coming out is when I'm at the strip, then the pen ends up in the back seat.

Just so you know that panel is there so you can adjust your park brake cable. There is a fastener in there that you can make it tighter or looser depending on your style.

Now it's a dual purpose access door !! Nice Mod !

Man if you think that's bad you should see mine.. I keep all kinds of parking hang-tags (I need them around campus & town etc) along with like 40 different mp3 cds... sunglasses, and a pen.. that's clean and organzied compared to mine... haha.

I used that hole to run my RCA plug from the PIE AUX adapter to the center console without drilling, and that's where my ipod sits. It's great b/c I can have my ipod playing with absolutly no wires showing!!
