Navigation systems

Ok, i have seen alot of nav systems, and head units for the stangs and i am looking for a good deal here. I have the Shaker 1000 and I want to go with a kenwood headunit here but i am looking at a $1900 price tag from crutchfield, and i know the factory HU is having some issues at the moment and i plan on doing this mod soon and i hear Pioneer is not really working to hard on a fix. I am also looking into a Garmin if i can not go with a new HU, i do not need alot of features, and i do not mind hardwiring the system i just need something that i can program a location and it will give me good and accurate directions and not lose signal or just be a complete waste. I also want it to show good maps of ALL cities, not just major ones. Thanx for all the help guys.

Go with the Pioneer AVIC Z1 or Z2. You will not be disappointed. Best unit on the market and it looks great in our cars!

The Z2 has no bypass so you can't use the controls while driving...
The Z1 is out of production and you'll have a tough time finding a new one....There are refurbs. on Ebay though....

The Kenwood DNX7100 is really nice and easier to install then the Z1 or Z2...

I have the Z1 and love it. Mine was made prior to June so I have the bypass which rocks. Over at avic411.com they are trying to find a bypass for the Z2. Give em time, they'll figure it out. Nothing is non-hackable...:-)

The Z1 is not hard to install at all.

I can highly recommend the Alpine IVA-W205! Its a great system and with the inclusion of the, ahem TR7 modification, it works great all the time... Oh and if Alpine ever releases the PMD-B200 Blackbird II, it'll add Nav, Nav Traffic, and Bluetooth to the deck.

yeah that is the reason i was turned away from the alpine, it is bad enough that the unit is like 1200+ from crutchfield and then to pay for the add accesories plus the nav unit, that is why i like the kenwood, already comes with nav and the reason i said 1900+ was because i want to add the 6 CD changer and sirius.

Oh Dan you should try sending your write up to Crutchfield, they said that they do not have any install sheets for the 05+ mustang

I just installed the Kenwood DNX7100 using Hags1 write up and I had no problems at all! The nav is spot on. I bought my head unit from ebay for $1049 brand new in a sealed box! I love it, sounds way better than my shaker 500

The Z1 is a great unit...too bad it's out of production and you have to buy second hand now....
You may have jinxed them on the Z2 hack with 'nothing is non-hackable'....they've been working on that hack for months now and no solution yet...
The other down fall to the Z1 and Z2 is the navigation updates cost $200+ and once you install the updates, you may loose your bypass and be stuck again until avic411.com figures it out... The Kenwood updates via a SD card and the updates are cheap...

I've got a Pioneer AVIC-D3 'n an iPod, love em to death. It'll be even better once I get the exploded door sub replaced The AVIC was $750 on eBay new, plus $40 worth of mounting stuff from Crutchfield.

NAV, DVD, MP3, WMA, XM, what's not to love?

1200+??? I don't think so!

Last I checked it was 899 at Crutchfield. On FleaBay they're going for between 650 and 750. Add 100 for a satellite radio kit... and 200 more for a 6 CD changer. When the Blackbird II comes out it'll be 699 at Crutchfield and, if I'm lucky, 400 on FleaBay.

I'm looking at putting in a AVIC D3 and have one problem . . . I'm afraid someone will break in my car and rip my dash apart to get it. Do you guys ever worry about this?

Nope, I have no fear of that whatever...

I have my car wired to detonate if it is broken into...

BOOM!

Now I have to figure how to let the Insurance company know...

My theft deterrent is simple. I went over to Staples and purchased a black plexi clipboard. When I start to exit the car I take the clipboard and rest it in front of the head unit. The black clipboard and the black dash together do a decent job hiding the head unit.
