My (Somewhat) Unique OEM Nav Install

As for the 2005 Mustang, you will have several issues with the installation. Our experience with the 2006/2007 models taught us that the illumination for the radio will (depending on settings) stay in either night mode or day mode, but never switch between the two. What we have concluded from testing is that the older vehicles do not seem to support the proper messages needed by the nav unit for illumination. If it is a stick shift, the other issue is that the radio will have no way to know when it is in "Park" so you will not have the ability to play DVD's (no big loss). The 2005 may have the same, or even more issues than what we have listed above.
As some point, hopefully in the next few months, we should have an adapter that will allow the installation of the newer clarion based navigation systems in vehicles not designed for it (like the F-150 and others such as the mustang).

What Brad is doing is the same as what the next step for getting the 13/14 clusters to work in our cars. Zeroaviation and I are working on it, but I may need to see what insight Brad may have into that project.
Mind you, if the only issue is illumination and the dreaded speed error, then this should be no problem at all. But this unit really needs Sync as well, so the work you and the others are doing with the 10-14 steering wheels and Sync is pretty important to this mod.

Looks like the best thing to do at this point is wait:
Brad,
I have been looking at the website, but am not certain what retrofit kit I should get from you for my Mustang. I know I need the amp, and I want Sync as well.
Or this will be covered when your kit comes out? Should I just wait?
Cheers

It will be covered when the kit comes out and has been tested on the mustang.

In the mean time, I loaded up a mustang logo onto the unit, so at least I'm not looking at a map that tells me I'm in michigan.

Jim...am I reading your post correctly? Brad at 4D is developing a harness to make the newer heads work in the 07 up Mustangs? That would help with the problems you mentioned a while back.
I've been gone for a couple months, so I haven't been on. Had a bit of "woman-man" problems at home, so I decided to take my stuff back to my house. Most of my stuff is still in boxes, but it getting set up. It is hell to find some of the stuff I need the most, but time will cure that, I hope.

The harness will be for 05-06 as well.
The issue I was having was with my 2012, but that has been resolved. It was my Ford Lockpick that was causing the problem.

Yes, I hope they get this finished soon.
I know many will say get aftermarket, but I am a fan of the OEM look.
Until there is an aftermarket that is just a screen that fills the double din, this is the way to go for me.

I completely agree. The oem look is so much cleaner and better than aftermarket. If I can't get the newer nav, I guess I'll have to deal with my older oem nav.
