If i understand correctly the songs need to be in a compressed MP3 format on a CD. Then it should work. I don't believe you can upload songs to it.

It's a 6 disc MP3 player, why would anyone ever need to upload songs to it.

The MP3 function of the unit means it will play the MP3 file format on a burned CD.

Just because I am new to MP3 also. I understand it that "Burned" and "Ripped" are two different things. A copy of a CD is a "Burn" and when you change a CD into a MP3 format it is "Ripping." Am I correct? Just checking. I see these two terms being interchange, but I learned them as two different things. (its tough getting old - and I am only 30)

just burn mp3 files to a cd as a data disc and the stereo will read the cd and play it. There is no uploading

klusku...

Burn referes to the act of making a cd, regardless of whether you are copying a cd or making a new compilation. It is like making a tape by hitting record.

Ripping is the act of extracting data from a cd/dvd...In this case extracting songs from a cd into the MP3 format.

there are benefits to a hard disk based mp3 player. and even with 6 cd changer you are still limited to 4.2 GB. Probably only 60 - 70 albums

Especially since its an in dash cd changer, how hard is it to switch discs? I have never had a CD changer, used to only being able to play one album at a time.

To "burn" an MP3 cd all you need to do is create a "data" not a "music" CD using whatever program you use to create CDs on your computer. You then write the MP3s directly onto the CD in their MP3 format. You should be able to fit between 100 and 150 songs on each CD. If you are only able to fit about 20 songs you are making a music CD and not a data CD.

What bit rate are you running on those MP3 files? Even compressed you probably won't fit 100 songs onto a 700mb CD with a high bit rate. I'm not an audiophile so maybe I'm wrong but 100 to 150 with decent sound seems a bit high for a single CD.

As far as ease of use with a 6-Disc in dash unit they are easy to use. When you insert a CD you simple select the position you want to insert it to from the face (using the pre-set buttons while on CD mode). To eject you press the eject button and select the CD position you want to eject with the station pre-set buttons again.

I don't know if the deck displays song title and info from MP3's though?

And no scratched disks either. A small, 20Gig portable is the way to go

There's no use in more than 192 kbit... a CD doesn't have higher quality, so ripping/burning at, say, 256 kbit is just wasting a lot of space for...static. It won't improve quality since the CD is a pretty sh*tty medium for sound storage to begin with.

Mine is spitting my mp3 CD out sometimes saying "bad disk". I pop it back in and it plays. It does it at different places on the CD each time. I haven't tried another mp3 CD yet. Anyone else having this problem?

See if the disc is dirty or has scratches. Try burning the CD at a lower speed. Try a different brand of recordable CDs (Verbatim DataLife Plus are very good and durable, be sure to get Plus version, though)

At a 192 bit you can easly fit over 100 songs on a CD. Remember, its a data cd so the program is not uncompressing the music to make a CD that you can play in any CD player. To give you an idea in data form each MP3 is about 3 to 7 megabites. So if you have a CD that holds 700 megabites you can put a lot of songs on it. I just made my friend a CD to play in his Ford Ranger which also has an MP3 player in it and I fit 120 songs on the CD...he listened two it for his whole 3 hour drive home without having to change CDs. This is why they say with the 6 CD changer you can have like 48 hours of music loaded up.
