Mod power plug to be switched with radio circuit?

I imagine it's an easy job if I had a wiring diagram of my 08.

Is there a diagram available on line?
Does anyone know what I'd have to switch around? I figure it could be done at the fuse box.

Thanks.

BTW, this is my first post.
Got my 08 Allow GT on Saturday.

You'll have to put a relay in the power wire, and run it from the remote turn-on circuit. If you want me to make you a diagram, just holler, but it would be a pretty simple job. You'd need a relay (bout $4), some 12ag wire, and four .25" female disconnects (or you can solder), and some 18ag wire.

Are you wanting this to work with a factory head unit, or an aftermarket (it MIGHT make a difference, I'll check on the relays).

With the factory Shaker 500 head. Basically, I want to leave my radar detector and/or phone charger plugged in but shut off when I leave the car.

A sketch would be awesome. Thank you.

Have you read any of the dead battery threads yet?

Maybe I should run a new hard-switched keyed circuit...

I'll make you a paint picture later tonight.

Here we go. Follow this diagram. For your 12v in/out, simply splice the terminals into the yellow wire going to the socket. This will put 12v into the relay, and then follow the factory wire back out to the lighter plug. Ground can go anywhere, but it seems like there is a factory ground in the console that is used by transmission electronics. Where it says "remote", I would hook it to the signal either behind the radio, or at one of the amps in the kick panels. The relay will have a little tab on the top that you can use to secure it. Game over. Now, the accessory port will not have power unless the radio is turned on.

Thanks, Infinity.
The "remote", is that a switched 12v? Does it pass through the relay to ground? Should I put a current-limiting resistor? Couldn't the power port just be fed off the switched 12v? Or is it not just a switched 12v?

Sorry, I'm usually much better at sussing these things out.

the remote and the 12v connect in the relay around a coil that creates a magnetic field to turn flip the switch when a current is passed thru. No reason to put a resistor in as long as you buy the correct relay that can handle the amperage of the device you are using. I wouldn't feed it off the 12v lead because it may not support enough amperage for your detector.

The "remote", is that a switched 12v?

Yes, you need to find a wire that turns live when you turn the ignition to the accessory position. A voltmeter would get you there, but of course you could search and see what color wire is used for the radio turn on lead.

You could, and probably should, put a fuse on the output side of teh relay, but it really won't be necessary. The port is already a switched 12v, but the car's electronics feed it slightly different than old cars. The only way it will be on the radio circuit is the way I stated by using the remote output trigger. I cannot remember the color of that wire behind the radio, so someone will have to chime in.

Okay, I understand how it works. Just gotta figure out what wire to tie into on the back of the Shaker 500. If anyone knows...

Thanks.

I don't have a Shaker to look at anymore, but I can tell you it's on the small square plug on the back. I believe there are 2 blue wires in an over/under configuration. Those are the remote triggers for the 500 and 1000.
