There are other RCA plugs on the 7100 that could be used with a RCA to audio jack for other MP3 players...The Ipod connection allows you to control the Ipod from the head unit...not sure how it would work with a different MP3 player...

Tried the USB port with an external hard drive loaded with music files last night....worked great....I had the I-pod still connected to the USB port and connected the hard drive in one of the other ports....the music from the hard drive played fine...now I have an 80 GB I-pod and who knows how big of an external hard drive I could add...

What's the biggest drive you've tried so far?
How does the folder/file navigation work? Say your "Rock" folder contained 383 artist sub-folders would it be too tedious to navigate?

The folders are explained in the manual and I'll have to look to see how that works, but it is explained and offers a lot of options. I know there are multiple folder levels, but I'm not sure if you could have say 383 different ones?? I'll have to check on that.
We do have a 160GB external notebook drive here at work and it's all music, so I may take that home and hook it up to see what happens....There's 40GB of music on there.

Since I have the 80GB Ipod of which only 14GB are used, I've only tried some smaller different size jump drives so far. I think the largest was 2GB.

I have only 3 levels of folders [\Genre\Artist\Album\] But there are 383 artist folders inside one of the genre folders.
Excellent idea about the manual, I'll download it and see if it has an answer.

Well, here's what the manual says:
Limitation of structure for the file and the folder (CD-R/RW/DVD+-R/RW/USB device)
Maximum number of directory levels: 8
Maximum number of folders: 254
Maximum number of files per folder: 255
Maximum number of files per playlist: 7000 (USB device)
So I guess it can't handle collections with more than 254 folders.

So hags, going back to the factory amps. They did not require any additional wiring to make them work? I dont have the 1000 but have the 500. I plan on buying a Nav system and was doing a little homework.
I skimmed through your install. This is pretty straight forward, or so it seems?

Can someone post the links for the first 2 parts of this install, I can't seem to find them.
Also are there any pictures of the antenna placements for both the Sirius and Nav. I am a noob when it comes to this.
For what its worth could the same location used in the Factory NAV unit install thread be used? The placement I am talking about is in this shot. Thanks to mrkabc's thread for the image.

Does anybody know of an link to a .pdf for the user manual? I have heard that it is fairly complex and does not exactly tell how to use it but thought that it may make me a bit more familiar prior to purchase and installation.
Thanks.
Thanks.
