I got the Kenwood DDX7017 In-Dash DVD Player installed yesterday. I'm not too good with installing stuff so I had a local shop do it for me. I haven't had too much time to play around with it, but I'm happy with what I've seen so far. The video and audio quality is really good. The screen looks clear almost from any angle. The images are crisp and sharp. It plays my burned DVDs without problems. Here is a pic of the setup. Let me know what you guys think.

For more pics, check out my CarDomain Page

P.S - Special thanks to "hawgman" for taking the time to answer my questions about the unit.

Looks nice man very nice

I got the Pioneer one because I was more interested in the Nav features but otherwise I would have gone with this one.

I just installed the same head unit with my Shaker 500 speakers and the rear-view back-up camera and I would also like to recognize Hawgman for the idea and all his help assisting me with my installation questions.

Thank you Hawgman! You the MAN!

The rear-view back-up camera... It still doesn't help with gauging the distance between objects, but it's cool anyways!

How does the Shaker 500 sound with the new head unit?

Does it over power the stock speakers?

How do you make the Mustang Pony appear as your background?

Where is the best place to purchase it?

Thanks in advance
Jesse

It does have Sirius sat option, but I haven't subscribed.

I plug in my radar detector into it, and I don't bother to cover it when I remove the detector.

Looks sweet Larry. I've got 2 questions:

1) Which aftermarket dash kit did you get and how well does it match the IUP?

2) How did you get the pony logo to come up on the screen? I didn't know that it was possible to transfer images into the system. Or is it just a photo CD?

No problem man. Glad I could help out.

Of course now my ancient 7015 needs updated after seeing the new model.

Helps if you adjust the angle of the camera. I pulled mine in some, then tilted it downward. Sealed around it with clear silicone. Helped alot with seeing what was actually behind the car instead of it just being a high tech rear view mirror.

After adjusting the built-in EQ and crossovers, it sounds a little better than stock and the door subs seem to be working better IMO. To make it sound better, I'll be changing the 6x8 door and rear deck speakers and adding a sub in the trunk.

No, I don't think it over powers the stock speakers unless you add more amps.

This head unit can also display jpeg images. That's what the Mustang Pony is.

I got mine from www.etronics.com for $869.00 + shipping. I have a 2 week old Kenwood DDX7017 with a scratched screen that I'm selling. I also have a brand new installation kit and a voltage regulator. PM me if you're interested.

It's a Woodview Dash Kit-12 pc.Double Brushed 05XB-MUSTG-DD (www.autoanything.com $151.95). IMO, it doesn't match the aluminum piece across the dash, but it matches the painted silver/aluminum air vents. It all seems to blend well overall, IMO.

The pony logo is a jpeg image burned onto my DVD+R. My head unit can display jpeg images as well as play mpeg (I play music videos) and mp3 and a few other formats.

I used the Kenwood KTC-V500N TV Tuner w/ Diversity Antenna System (www.etronics.com $219.99). It only picks up local stations and not very well at all (maybe 1 good channel). I would have liked a satellite tuner/antenna but I think they are big and bulky and wouldn't look good on the Mustang.

I installed the antenna on top of the inside rear glass and tucked all the wires behind the panels which connected to the tuner unit mounted under the rear deck between the speakers.

Not a very good picture of the mounted TV tuner under the rear deck between the speakers.
