Katzkin install in progress
Where exactly did you purchase them from? I've always wanted to do a set of their seat covers, but can't find pics anywhere of them installed on Mustangs. Especially verts! Plus, It's really difficult to decide on a pattern without getting to see pics with coloring.
He was good to work with, got the order right, and was diligent in working through a shipping delay on Katzkin's end,
Paul...those seats look SWEET!!!!
Where did you mount the switches for the heaters?
I tied mine into the heater box relay (only work if heater box control is not OFF) and put the switches on top of the console, one on each side of the shifter.
Also I used the zip-ties instead of the hog rings...easier to work with.
Can't wait for the snow to melt...need to get the roof down and the tires spinning again!

My switches are on top of the console too. If you look at the installed pics you can spot them just behind the shifter bezel.
I've heard of people using zip ties, but the hog rings were actually pretty easy, and given the labor required to pull everything apart I thought it was better to stick with the steel hog rings.
And man, do I ever agree with you on that last part. Going crazy with no "top down" cruising...
Where did the hog ring pliers come into play on the Mustang? I just did a Katzskin upgrade to our F350 over the holidays, and with the exception of needing a few zip-ties, it was all "plug-n-play" right down to the super velcro they use in the seats to tuck them back into the inserts.
Just curious, so I know what to be on the lookout for when we start upgrading the 2010...

Which is the main reason I stuck with the hog rings. Don't want to worry I'm going to sit on the seat on a frigid New England morning three years from now and feel a tie wrap snap inside the seat
Very true - luckily on the truck where the zip ties were used is under a plastic panel on the back only, so if it ever became an issue, 5 minutes would fix it. But yes, I agree 100% that the right tool for the job is the way to go if possible.
I have some Katzkin seats in my vert. The original owner had them installed from the dealership, Town and Country. I have some pics in my photobucket, the links in my sig.
This is the Katzkin reseller I went with: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/87-08...item5183b2b1fe

Did they charge any extra for the colored stitching? Is that embroidered mustang logo on the headrest something you got done separately or did Katzkin do that?
Here is a video I found for installing Katzkin leather into an F150... Obviously going to be a slightly different installation process for a Mustang, but for informational purposes it is useful.

The headrest was done by the late lamented headrestembroidery.com (HRE). They went out of business several years ago about the time Ford's lawyers were chasing everyone that had even heard the word "Mustang" over copyright issues. It's a pity, they're beautiful, the ponies are even somewhat three dimensional.
I'd call the install more "labor intensive" than difficult. What needs to be done isn't that tough to figure out, but it does take some time, and you do need a special tool or two (cutters strong enough to clip steel hog rings, and well as a pair of hog ring pliers to install fresh ones.)
You can find hog ring pliers pretty cheap on eBay, and Lowes sells a pair of 8" bolt cutter that snip the old rings with ease.
The covers ran $599 from a Katzkin dealer

This is the best seat design I've seen anywhere. I'd love to find a similar headrest embroidery.
quote=Torch_Vert;5795486]I've been staying warm indoors reupholstering my pony's seats with new Katzkin covers. Progress so far (though they need a bit of baking in the hot sun to smooth out the wrinkles, but that ain't happening around here today). I also installed seat heaters in the seat bottoms and back while I had the covers off anyway. The red is much deeper than the photos appear, the camera flash is throwing off the color.

Not one bit. Installed and in natural light, they're not quite the inky black they appear in those indoor photos. They look great and everything matches up nicely
