Katzkin install in progress
Katzkin install in progress
I've been staying warm indoors reupholstering my pony's seats with new Katzkin covers. Progress so far (though they need a bit of baking in the hot sun to smooth out the wrinkles, but that ain't happening around here today). I also installed seat heaters in the seat bottoms and back while I had the covers off anyway. The red is much deeper than the photos appear, the camera flash is throwing off the color.

I'd call the install more "labor intensive" than difficult. What needs to be done isn't that tough to figure out, but it does take some time, and you do need a special tool or two (cutters strong enough to clip steel hog rings, and well as a pair of hog ring pliers to install fresh ones.)
You can find hog ring pliers pretty cheap on eBay, and Lowes sells a pair of 8" bolt cutter that snip the old rings with ease.
The covers ran $599 from a Katzkin dealer

For a second their i was looking at the rear seats and wondering why you connected the two upper parts but then i saw your avatar and noticed you had a Vert. LOL and i forgot to add the pic i wanted to add, this is the pic
Well, the seats are all back in the car. I'm just finishing up the wiring and switch installs for the heaters in the console. Hopefully I'll have some installed pics soon.
Where did the hog ring pliers come into play on the Mustang? I just did a Katzskin upgrade to our F350 over the holidays, and with the exception of needing a few zip-ties, it was all "plug-n-play" right down to the super velcro they use in the seats to tuck them back into the inserts.
Just curious, so I know what to be on the lookout for when we start upgrading the 2010...

p.s. Marcello, got that replacement back for the shifter bezel where the machining wasn't quite up to SHR's usual high standard. The new one is perfect, and I appreciate you helping me out so quickly (the new one is in the interior shots i'll be posting shortly)

Cool, good to hear - over 1000.00 in new fixturing to make it a completely different way than we used to just to avoid such potential issues that got by like that one.
Just picked up another double station vise on eBay NIB, retail is 1300, we got it for 500, so it will help with the next project we're already running here in two setups, simplifying it to one setup and 8 stations. (top secret at the moment, will break cover in the April / May issue of magazines or to our website if they get through finishing quickly enough

Here are the "installed" shots. It was too cold today to put the top down and the leather still needs a little time and heat to smooth out fully, but in the meantime, things look really good imho, and the heat seaters are really nice:
