IUP Rear Panel mod

I always thought the interior wasn't finished by ford and it bugged the crap out of me. I saw Odiaz's post on here a while ago and knew I had to do it.

I won't lie it was a pain in the ***. I ended up redoing the vinyl about 3 times.

Here's the how-to I followed.

I see what you mean. It could be a detail that you notice or one that someone points out to you. It gets under your skin and you have to fix it. (The stock mirrors were a sore point for me.)

Hey Deric, it looks GREAT!!! I have the parts and a spare set of interior panels. I have the one side cut, just gotta re-lay the vinyl as it wasn't straight the 1st time. Your right, it looks great when its done and for me, its a winter mod. I got my instruction from MTAS (Dave). He did a killer job taking the plunge for us. Again, great job. Car looks very good with it.

Thanks everyone. I still have to fix the tinsel welt around the one I took a picture of but otherwise it really does flow with the interior. A pain in the butt and if I was to do it over again I probably would have used a spare set. If you don't have the welt trim I highly recommend it. Even if you don't want silver get black as it helps hide imperfections and it's easy to scratch the channel when cutting the Vinyl. When I did mine I pre-cut the top and then left everywhere else oversized and cut the rest on the part. I also recommend cover most of the rest of the panel with paper that way you can lay down an even coat of adhesive

Nice job Deric. I had problems with the tinsel welt also. I'll probably wind up redoing mine some day also. I wound up gluing it in place and it made a bit of a mess. It cleaned up pretty good but I still notice the imperfections. Nobody else does but I know they are there and it annoys me.

Thanks. Your car is what got me to do this. I know exactly what you mean on wanting to redo it. I actually considered cutting out the area, wrapping it and then making some type of anchor system so I could reattach it beacuse I wasn't happy with the first couple of attempts.

LOL, I went through the same thought process. Having a convertible is a bit tougher because the rear speakers are behind this panel. I had to figure out a way to allow the sound to flow through the material. I wound up using a dremmel with a small drill bit and drilling out each whole. It was tedious and time consuming. Sometimes I wandered if I should sacrifice sound quality for aesthetics. I was actually tempted to leave the speakers covered.
