Unhappy Ipod solutions

Just got an ipod for Christmas, now I need to hook it up to the 'stang. Unfortunately I have an '06, which I absolutely had that Ford did not place an aux input in. What the hell where they thinking? I also hate that there is no steering wheel audio controls, but i digress.....

What are my best options? I have read tons of posts but I am getting confused. If i can put in an aux jack for like $25 i'd be hip with not having any charging or stereo controls? I have no problem splicing wires. I don;t want the FM transponder, since everyone of those those I have heard sounds like crap.

I see that the PIE units are like $150, and there is that brandmotion thing which i see on their site that is $225. Charging and controls are cool, but i don;t need it if I can save a substantial amount of money.

Cheap is key, since I don't want this present to end up costing me hundreds of dollars.

Merry Christmas

This is pretty much your best option.

Hmmm, maybe I will consider the FM adapters. Anyone have experience with them? I remember about 3 years ago, a friend had one and it was not very good. Maybe they improved since then?

My anger for Ford is growing even greater as I think about them not providing an input jack in the 06.

Just go and buy the hardwire one at Best Buy and instal it yourself. Its very easy. I think it was only like 85 bucks but so worth it. I hardly ever listen to CDs anymore and you can control your IPod through your factory radio.

Yes, Please provide us what you got from best buy.

Also, anyone want to weigh on their experience with the PIE? I see those are going for about 130 now. Thanks.

If you have any hearing left at all then do NOT get the FM modulators. They truly suck. I'm not sure what your best options are for stock radio but I know you will dislike FM.

I've had an iPod since they first came out and been ticked off that manufacturers would not add a simple AUX input. At least now in 07-08 cars are coming with AUX stock, just took the industry a while to catch up to the times.

I saw on another post an aux adapter that was like 79 bucks. Do these work without the problems? From the research I can see on the site that practically everyone had a problem with every adapter at some point. Has anyone had an adapter with no problems????

i ordered the PIE adapter the day i got my mustang and never looked back. ive considered the "control with shaker" adapters but remembering all those button combinations AND after learning it all, trying to play with the radio while driving just doesnt seem realistic. so i scored a blaupunkt ipod mount and stuck that sucker on the right center pillar. i then snaked a car charger through the center console and the PIE wire comes out of the glove box.

to this day i still have people ask me if it came like that from the factory. the ipod is right next to my hand when i got it on the shifter and theres no need to memorize dumb button combinations.

also, never had one problem with the PIE adapter to this day (over 1 1/2 years).....knock on wood

Nicely done. Do you have a link to the cradle you purchased and the price you purchased it at?

Also, how does the cradle attach to the center pillar?

Thanks!

So the PIE adapter doesn't allow you to control the iPod through the head unit?

just a standard pie unit itself, you can only control it through the ipod itself, not the headunit.

ran me about $15.00 on ebay. the picture there shows an earlier model ipod but it fits my video and my brothers brand new video perfect. also has adapter brackets for the old ipod mini (nothing for the nano though). as for how its mounted, i just used the double sided foam tape the mount came with. works perfect, my car sits in 90+ degrees in the summer and it never peels off even alittle.

We got two, FM modulated type adapters from Advanced Auto. They have the native cord for the iPod and DO NOT USE the headphone jack. They are tunable through the whole range of the FM frequencies.

That said, we are in a suburb of Milwaukee and we can use 88.3 through 91.7 to tune with NO issues.

The units were $26 after taxes. We like them, or I'd send you one.

They are white plastic with a plastichrome bezel. They have white cords and they have a hinge such that they can be placed in the arm rest power plug and the iPod can be run out to the cup holder.

I use mine all the time and yes, the sound quality isn't the same as CD, but I listen to music that was originally on vinyl, so when I do listen to it at home, it sounds scratch too.
