Interior mirror removal
well today i bit the bullet and got around to removing the stock mirror ,to replace it with one from e-bay..a gentex with a compass and temp display..i looked at trying to remove it myself, and read a few links on this board about it..the conclusion was 50-50 chance of cracking upon removal..now this is an '07 ...so off to a local glass company to have it removed ...well it got removed in about 5 seconds, and without tools ...now for the news....all new fords have what is called a "break away mirror"..it's designed to "break away " in case of an accident to not break the windsheild..so the installer just pushed the mirror down ,grabbed the sharft between mirror head and bracket, then just peeled the mirror off slowly, pushing it down...the glued bracket stayed ...mirror off ....now i did notice that it bends 2 metal tabs out, which if you ever plan to re-use it you'll have to bend them back.. due to the wiring on this mirror i have no plans to remove it if i decide to sell the car....Robert
