Installing new alpine player
Ok I have a question for your audio buffs... I just ordered this alpine player from Crutchfield.com http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...DA9885&tp=5684...
Its the CDA-9885 from Alpine... I currently have the Shaker 500 system installed in my car and have been hearing conflicting information about how well it works with the speakers and factory amps... I will be getting the 5v thing to help stop the pop on startup but do not know much more about audio installation.. I do not understand when reading tacobills write up where to solder in the 5v voltage regulator? Will the system in my car door subs and rear speakers still work well with this Alpine if anyone knows from experience? Happy 4th everyone and thanks for the advice in advance!

Also for anyone who has installed an Ipod adaptor where is the best place to route the cord? the glovebox, middle console or since im getting a single din player should i just route it through the cubby that will be under the cd player?

My experience is that the Alpine unit brings the factory speakers and amps to life, compared to the Shaker 500....I did replace my back deck speakers with a pair of Infinity Kappas, but the stock speakers were fine with the Alpine.
As far and the 5V install, here is a link that was very helpful for me. This shows the procedure on a non Mustang, but it is the same wiring harness as the Mustang. Crutchfield will hook you up with the install kit and harness with your order....

Now, if I could just find a cover for the cubby, I would be pleased......

Do you like the cubby? I like the idea so I can stop using my cup holders for cell phone storage hehe... I dont think it looks bad... Thanks for the pictures and the link! Would you say the install is easy for a beginner?

Oh yeah, I love having the storage of the cubby, I just hate picking everything up every time I jump on her...... Somebody MUST have made a cover for it...I just cannot find it....
I'm no mechanical genius, and I had no issue with the install. When you get the new head unit, and have the 5V from radio shack, just sit down at your work bench, or kitchen table, and do all the connections away from the car. Then just go to the car and do the swap out....The crutchfield instructions for install of the head unit are very good.....
Good luck with it....

Plug it in without the voltage regulator first and test to see if you need it. I've installed in 4 different 05+, and only mine needed it. My new Sport Trac also needs one, but it's a BASTARD to get behind the unit on this thing.

Does the car have subs below the back window or are those just regular speakers... Taco Bill wrote that you need a y split cable to plug in the shaker 500 with the alpine why would u need the y split cable?

I'm not sure which wiring you're needing more of, but almost the entire connection system is 16ag, except for the 2 power and the ground. Those are 12 (IIRC).

Radio install is now complete... Broke one prong on the voltage regulator but there was enough metal left on it to solder... Install took 4 hours... but thats 4 hours from a dad and son who have no previous radio installs in a car... Thank you all so much for the help!
