Help w/ Bullitt Seat Install?!
Help w/ Bullitt Seat Install?!
Wondering if someone here can help...otherwise I have to go to an upholstery shop for something which may actually be rather easy.
Here's the problem. I'm trying to install the Bullitt seats (with the upgraded side bolsters) in my 08 Mustang which already has black leather seats w/ side airbags. Now, the only difference between the two types of seats is the backrest portion of the seat. The seat bottom and the head rest are the same.
So, what I need to do is take off the headrest, and then separate the backrest from the seat bottom. Once this is accomplished, I should be able to remove the old leather seat covering and slide the new one on. However, I don't know how to do this.
Has anyone performed this type of project or can anyone explain how the backrest and the seat bottom are attached together? Thanks! Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. If someone actually has downloadable instructions, that would be phenomenal!!

I saw both the thread and the video. After looking further on the internet, I managed to find a more detailed description of how to do the job. I think it's a no-go.
That video is fairly misleading and I think it's designed to sell parts from newtakeoff.com rather than really describe what is involved in the install. You do have to deal with hog rings and assorted clips, and there is no guarantee that the job will actually look good once it is finished.
As Clint Eastwood said in Dirty Harry, "a man's got to know his limitations." Right now, it's looking like I'm going to need a professional upholsterer to do this job and make it look good.
Thanks for the responses, however!

dont waste your time with an upholster - it really is almost as simple as the video on new take off makes it look. the only difference is that I separated the bottom and backs of the front seats (one or two bolts and a screw). It took me three days to install heated seats but thats because I spent about 2 hours on day one assessing the situation and about 30 minutes each on day one and two, not including the time it took to put the seats back in which was probably another 20 or 30 minutes. Also I used regular needle nose pliers to get the hog rings off, major PITA and i suspect an unnecessary time consumer; day one probably would have been shorter had I instead used hog ring pliers but I couldnt justify buying them because I replaced the hog rings with zip ties. Its been two years since I did the install and the seats look like they were never touched. I look forward to replacing the covers with red and black leather look vinyl because Im certain the install will be even easier this time.
also, almost any newly installed seat covers will have wrinkles that will take a few days or even as long as a week to work themselves out, but they do and its pretty much impossible for the install to not look as good as a pro job
oh, and get some nut buster or other lubricant for the bolts, youll probably need them

A key tip was to lay the covers in the sun for an hour or so prior to starting the install as that really softens them and makes fewer wrinkles
