I started to get everything together and do a preinstall of a AVIC D1 head unit in my '06. I've got the Metra install kit 99-5807, but it doesn't seem to hold the Pioneer unit well. I'm used to being able to slide the unit in from the front, but the kit is to small so I would have to mount the stereo in from the rear and the face doesn't slide into the install kit housing it sits back in the housing and doesn't look right. Am I missing something or am I using the wrong install kit? For those that did their own install what kit did you use, and did you have to modify it at all? Also can anyone supply close up shots of their install to see how recessed your head unit is. I've installed many stereos before but this one's got me baffled.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks man, I messed with it some more last night and I think I've got it the way I want. I'll take several pictures of the install so I can do a small write up.

I write up would be great. A Kenwood 7015 is my next upgrade.

I love my DDX7015. But I have to ask... If you are going to put in a Kenwood, why put in one that is outdated and no longer manufactured? Why not go with the 8017?

Don't get me wrong, like I said I love my 7015. But I have also been bummin that they discontinued it less than a month after I bought it ( nearly a year ago ) and put out a new model. Actually, it has been 3 new models since I bought mine.

I installed my AVIC-D1 with the provided Crutchfield dash kit. Looks great and no modifications necessary. Sorry, dont have any pics.
