Help with shaker 500 to 1000 swap

I'm interested in "upgrading" my shaker 500 to the shaker 1000
In my 05 GT. I've honestly never even heard the shaker 1000, but I have to assume with the 2 10" subs it has to sound better??

I've been getting some conflicting info on that auction site as to what will work
Or fit?

From what I can tell, I will need the head unit, and trunk speaker boxes (hopefully with amps included). Is there anything else I will need to make this look "factory"?

I've also read where there may be different versions for the coupe and conv.??
And that an 09' head unit only works on an 09????

Does anyone here have the straight scoop on this swap and what I should look for??

I realize there are likely better sounding aftermarket systems, but I'm trying to keep my mustang somewhat original with OEM parts.

Thanks

I dont think you need the headunit it should be the same as the 1000. I had a 1000 in mine that I have since replaced with aftermarket. All you should need is the sub box with amps. Really its just louder bass. The 2 10 inch woofers deliver a surprising amount of bass. Its no aftermarket system, but it can get pretty loud. I actually have all the stuff if you are interested. Haven't really decided if I want to sell it or not. Also my car is an 05

From what I've read, I don't believe the head units are the same??
I doubt a 500 head unit would have a sub out? (No need?)

Also curious as to how the box mounts in the trunk? (Don't really want to drill any holes to secure the box....

Yes, there are differences between the coupe and 'vert versions. Also, I believe the dealership will have to reprogram the head unit for functions like speed volume, etc. I'd check with your local service department for this and if you have Sirius there may be other requirements. I don't know for sure.

Tough to say about the box. I can put a picture of where it was in my trunk(2 bolts to the trunk floor if I remember right). As far as the sub out from the head unit, the way I understood it was the shaker 500 and 1000 have the same HU. The harness has a set of wires/plugs that run to the trunk for the 1000's subwoofers. They should still be there on the 500, they just wont be hooked up to anything. Check your trunk around where the seats fold down on the passenger side and see if you have some extra plugs back there
