Does not work anymore on pioneer head units. You have use a bypass.

Yeah I think they may be the only brand to allow that lol maybeee Alpine. But with every year they'e making it more difficult it seems. My new x2500 uses a accelerometer as well I believe. But thankfully we have great people to make the bypasses and they work absolutely perfect. Plus they're only around $20 on amazon. Not too bad.

Gotta say though, I have yet to really use that feature but its nice knowing I can. Waiting on a road trip to help entertain the passengers with that cool feature

Does anyone have a suggestion of how to dim down a screen that doesn't have an option to do so?

What kind of deck is it? Most have a dimmer/illumination wire that is orange/white that would be hooked up to a 12 volt source when the light switch is on, for example any of the dash lights.

Kenwood ddx418. I believe there is a dimmer one. What would I need to tap it into?

This may vary because everyones eye's vary, but I'm glad I disconnected my dimmer wire. The stock brightness of my pioneer is perfect. Can always see it during the day and not too bright for night time driving. Plus there's a lot of roads where I live that require head light use when driving, so even I wanted my lights on during the day, I wouldn't be able to see the screen. Plus most these units, it seems the interface and screens are of a variety of darker colors. Like my background is black with various colors throughout so its not that bright.

The TCS button would work, or any of the buttons in that area. Meter the wires going to the switch, and see which one gives you 12 volts when the lights are on. I don't remember the wire colour, sorry. Strip a little insulation back on the wire, and connect the orange/white wire from the head unit, test it out before making a permanent connection.

Another member suggested pushing and holding buttons and I found one that I could turn the screen off but keep the radio on. If I get bored one day I may tap that wire into the dimmer

I'm using my gf's old iphone 4 and I'm debating whether to get the cable. My pioneer has app mode and allows me display certain apps on the screen. I found a couple offline navigation apps that I could use. Main thing holding me back is having to pull the whole system out again.

I believe its just pioneer that has the feature. Its called app mode or advanced app mode. Which just displays selected apps on the screen. Then some units have app radio 2 which actually mirrors your smart phones screen. Pretty neat.

Yeah...its a pretty new feature so maybe all the companies will pick it up. The appradio with mirroring the phone could be OK interesting.
