I ordered my car with IUP so I can get mycolor but I was wondering...is it possible to remove the upper dash and door handel silver parts and change the a/c vents back to black while keeping the chrome ring around them?

I assume you mean something conceptually opposite of what I did:

Yea its possible. The A/C vents are held by two plastic clips. If you pull them (carefully) they'll release.

Yes pretty much. I thought the a/c vents would be easy but what about the dash part and the door handles? I also am assuming the steering wheel can be swapped easy.

The reason for all this is when I was checking the WAF (wife acceptance factor) of some two toned seats I showed her this pic.

Now to my surprise she liked it but she Said she likes it because the rest of the dash is black with the chrome rings. She said she thought all the silver from the IUP mixed in would be too much. I may kinda agree so thats why I was asking if it can be done. If I do two toned seats it would be black n red like those...black car...chrome rims. I think it would look pretty good.

Sooo can it happen?

I believe that Cobra interior picture has a darker IUP dash, but it isn't totally black like one without the IUP. It's got what appear to be satin silver rings on the A/C vents which are more subtle than the chrome I've got.

I thought I had heard that some time late in 2005 the dark IUP would become a 2006 option, but haven't seen anything about it lately.

Replacing the upper dash elements looks to be pretty easy. The cover that goes over the guages simply snaps into place. It took me about 30 seconds to remove mine and replace it with the IUP dash. The piece that sits over the center console is held on by four bolts... two on the left and two on the right. The piece on the far right is held on with two bolts. The challenge to replace these two pieces is that you have to remove the passenger air bag. The technical documents I read seem to indicate that this is pretty simple but I haven't done it yet.

Ok yeah I think thats is the dark IUP isn't it. Well after seeing that made me think the solid black with the chrome might look better with the blk/red seats. I didn't realize those parts on the dash were screwed on there tho. I thought it was stick on....so now I have more questions

So If I were to try and remove the light silver IUP dash I would have to buy/trade for the normal black parts to go back on the dash?

Are the rings around the A/C vents also attached to the light silver IUP part? If so can that be changed....like if you got the dark IUP but wanted chrome rings instead of the satin ones can you do that?

Thanks everyone!

Pretty much....maybe the solid black steering wheel. I am still not sure but all I really wanted with the IUP was the mycolor...but it seems I can get the silver parts off easy enough as well.

Yes, you can swap the A/C vents to get what you're wanting. The vents are attached to the chrome ring. It basically looks like a cup that slides into the hole. If I can remember, I'll take a pic of what one looks like when I get home tonight.
As for the silver panels, they're not just panels, they are part of the dash so each dash piece of the dash has to be removed and swapped out.
Here's a pic of the instrument cluster piece.

In the picture, the piece labeled as part # 1 has to be swapped out to change from IUP to standard.

Hope that helps. Also, here are the instructions for the steering wheel.

As you can see we all have different taste. I went for the IUP dash with black A/C vents.

I've never tried to remove them, but according to Martimus,

I ordered IUP with my car so all I had to do is replace the silver A/C vents with black ones. The silver IUP panels are factory.

Didnt know if you actualy took it all apart to put the silver parts on. I was going to see how hard it actualy was. Ill bet I could find someone who would want to trade out the standard parts for the IUP ones. Once my car finaly gets in I can sit and see what color combo I want to do.

Do yall know if you can buy the service manual on the 05-06 yet?

I think most of the panels would be easy. It's the ones on the far right that will be a pain... because of the airbag.
