I would also like to ask you all about what regular door and read deck speakers you used and if you have any suggestions. I am already set with the pioneer door subs and am planning on going with Rockford Fosgate 6x8's in the other spots. In the rear I am going with TMA brushed aluminum amps mounted on a torch red custom amp rack and their TMA brushed aluminum subs are going into the Shaker 1000 box which will be painted torch red. The idea is to replicate the interior color scheme and complement the red seats and brushed aluminum dash. Hopefully it will be sick! Mu ha hah haaaaaaaaaa!

Since I've already asked him, no, the enclosures were modified.

That sounds neat. Let me know how easy it is to change out the 1000's. I don't have one, so I've never messed with it.

I took the Shaker 1000 box out last night and am actually impressed. It was very easy to pull out and was held in by three 13mm bolts and one 13mm nut. The speakers had quick disconnect plugs that went to the two stock amps mounted to the trunk wall behind the box. The subs were easy to get out and held in by a 12mm bolt in the back of the box for each and then 8 small screws in the front for each speaker and grill. I don't plan on reusing the shaker 1000 grills but they are reusable. The stock 10" subs were not bad but not great. They had big heavy magnets and were dual voice coil at 75 watts each coil. The box is sturdy and well sealed but I will have to fiberglass the place where the center bolt went through to mount the stock sub in the back. There is about a 6" mounting depth so the JL TMA Subs should fit fine. I am having the box painted Ford torch red to match the interior and the subs are aluminum coned. The wheel well amp is going to be torch red with TMA brushed aluminum amps, Tsunami chrome capacitors with red led indicators and red neon lighting under the amps. I am extending the color scheme from the interior into the trunk. Red, Black, Brushed Aluminum and Chrome. Next is to color coordinate under the hood. Look for the first pics on Monday.

Unless you just want the looks, please don't spend any money on the capacitors. I DO want pics of this when it is done.

They are going to be just for looks. They don't cost much extra nor do the neon lighting. It is a little overboard but It should look really awesome. I am taking the car in for framing tommorow.

I have already ordered the CAPS. I took a look at the ones that were on the link you listed. I am going with the Tsunami brand of CAP. They have a chrome finish and a red LED voltage indicator on them. I will be only running about 750 watts RMS and 1500 peak watts so having two CAPS are for looks only. The car is at the shop right now and they are framing out the custum amp racks. I expect to be able to post pictures later tonight or first thing in the morning.

First Pictures

Here are the first pictures of the job so far. The amp rack is fitted for the tire wheel well and then the fiberglass work is started. Tell me what you think so far.

I like it. Isn't TMA the JL-owned company? I'm almost positive it is. I like the clean, simple look of the amps.

Thanks for the compliment. Yes TMA is owned by JL and they are high quality components and the simple look is their selling point. They are a little cheaper in price since they are not flashy. I chose them because I am trying to extend the color combo that I have in my interior into the trunk. The Shaker box and the fiberglass amp rack are going to be the same color red as my seats. The TMA amps and TMA subs are the brushed aluminum to match my IUP dash and the Caps are chrome to match the chrome trimmings on the dash. I can't wait for the DVD nav head unit to come in.

I have actually learned a lot by competing in both Mustang car shows and head to head against the tuners. Most stangs have the powerful engine, brake and drive-train upgrades where as the "Ricer's" have all that ALIEN technology and gizmo's. I am taking the best of both with my project. Just don't look for me to put one of those hideous tails on my car like the ricer's do.

Oh, I understand the "alien" technology- that was my job at one point (installer). I love the electronics, but I'm a "stealth" kinda guy. Get ripped-off once, and you get a bit gunshy. I may find me a Shaker 1000 enclosure and use it just for the factory look of it.

I used to be really worried about buying aftermarket stereo equipment. But now electronics are relatively cheap in the aftermarket world and the factory stuff is actually more expensive. The stero equipment I am putting in actually costs less than what it would cost to replace my Shaker 1000 components if ordered separately from the dealership. The Pioneer AVH 6800 6 disc DVD/CD player I bought only cost 999 dollars a new Shaker 1000 head unit from ford costs more than that. If i get ripped I just tell the insurance company and they always say they will pay for stock replacements only and bingo I got plenty to get even better stuff! Not like the old days anymore.

Mine's all covered by my insurance. I took install pictures, and they have them all on disc, along with scans of the original receipts in my file at my agent's office.

I have to give Jam Audio a lot of credit. They are doing a top-notched job on building my custom amp rack. I am looking forward to the final installation which will be done on Monday. My 8" pioneer shallow subs for the doors cam in this morning and you would be amazed at the new technology they use. I can't wait to hear how the upgrade sounds compared to when I had the Shaker 1000 going.

curses

Curses! The 8" Subwoofer speaker covers are glued to the speakers I am going to have to use my heat gun to try and soften the glue to get the freakin things off. I am worried that it will end up warping the plastic covers. Hopefully ford will sell me some new ones. I don't think anyone has ever reused the factory speaker grills. Most people think that their bare subs are cool but the Pioneer shallow subs are built for performance and their radical design is not cool looking. I must use the factory speaker grills

If you pry CAREFULLY, they do come off. I used a 1" putty knife and some patience. Once they're off, a dab of acetone/nail polish remover will clean the residue. Ford will only sell them to you already glued to the driver. I checked.

BTW, don't expect miracles from the new door subs. The factory ones aren't bad at all. I rewired mine to 4 ohms, and power them with my aftermarket amp. They do a good job. I'm still swapping them just cause that's how I roll :P

Thanks for the tip. I am going to try again tonight with prying off the factory speaker grills.
