Autometer Triple Dash Pod

I'm sure if this is new, but Autometer has a pretty cool looking triple gauge pod for mounting in the center of the dash. Does anyone have one of these?

Some pics would be nice!

Looks great, could not find pricing, any ideas? I think that would match up nice with IUP.

I found a place that had it for $79. You could porbably find it for cheaper? But, at least they have a good pic of it.

Does look like it would go good with the IUP doesn't it?

These guys would better serve their customers to install one on a car rather than throwing a picture out there. The pod looks good but showing it installed could be a different story. JMO~

Yeah, I know. It should look better then any other gauge pod, but I'd like to see what it looks like in a Mustang first!

Maybe it's too new for anybody to have put one in their Mustang?

I've been waiting for someone to ask about this gauge pod. I'm not the type that will post a "take a look at my ride", or "new pics", etc....

I guess I'm the first one to install one of these, but..... (more later). Although AutoMeter claims the grain is a match to the dash, it is slightly different. Also, the finish is too shiny. That was solved by spraying it flat black. Not only does it come very close to matching the dash, but the difference in the grain is no longer noticeable.

(It's "later"!!)
If you've ever owned a third gen Camaro (12 total for me) and registered at thirdgen.org, you will undoubtedly know that I have come up with numerous "custom" creations, both performance and cosmetic. If you've ever been to my website (sorely outdated), you'll see some of these creations. For example, I worked with ATI (ProCharger) to come up with a twin intercooler "kit" for third gens. I've also built my own wideband circuitry with help from a DIY forum way BEFORE any aftermarket company had a WB gauge on the market.....etc.. BTW, you guys would not believe the similarities between a third gen Camaro and the S197..... When I first sat in an '05 Mustang, it was like sitting in my 1987 Z28 convertible (and 1987 IROC-Z).

I also do not like to follow the trend of others. I will go out of my way trying to figure out how to do stuff that no one else has figured out. I've never liked following others' trends. Instead, I like to create them. That being said>>>

Now onto the S197 gauge pod.... I needed a blank panel for my switches / ***** / momentary pushbuttons / LEDs, etc. but could not find any place where it would look built-in. With FIVE switches and FOUR indicator LEDs already installed in the upper "console", I needed more room.

I removed the face from the upper lid. They are glued together. I formed my own gauge face. There is room for four 2-1/16" gauges. Instead, I incorporated three dual digital gauges and a myriad of switches, etc. In my opinion, it looks totally killer and UNIQUE.

"Dual digital gauges". Like I have already stated, I won't follow trends. That means I will not use a three-gauge SOS pillar pod with Autometer gauges -- like everyone else. Instead, I have a one-gauge SOS pillar pod that Alan was so nice to make for me. This pod is used for a digital WB gauge. As for the three dual digital gauges in my center console, I use:

1) Fuel Pressure / Voltage
2) Boost / Temp (Engine)
3) Temp (Intercooler In) / Temp (Intercooler Out)

These gauges are programmable with over/under temp, pressure, etc. warning LEDs and external device triggers. These are the most accurate gauges I've EVER seen. For example, can you guys read your engine temperature to the tenths or even hundredths? I can. I can also set the units (Fahrenheit / Celsius), sampling rate, display blacklight intensity, and so on.....

Fuel Pressure
I set the flashing warning LED at 25-psig and the external trigger to kill my engine at 22.5-psig.

Voltage
The warning LED is set to 11.7 volts. External trigger not connected.

Boost
No need to set anything here.... this gauge is only informational.

Temp (Engine)
With a 160 t-stat, my engine runs between 167 - 179, even on the hottest days with A/C. The warning LED is set to 185.

Temp (Intercooler In)
The warning LED is set at 125 degrees. The external trigger is set to 120 degrees and automatically turns on my two heat exchanger fans.

Temp (Intercooler Out)
A fully informational gauge. Comparing the readout of this with the Intercooler In temp tells me how much heat is being removed from the medium (water).

The gauges themselves have also been modified cosmetically. They do not look like the units I bought. More custom work here. Let's just say that at night, not only do both readouts illuminate in blue but I get a nice blue ring around each gauge....

As long as I'm at this, here's more. The five switches / four LEDs on my upper console:

Switches with built-in LEDs:
1) Low Fan (Engine)
2) Hi Fan (Engine)
3) Intercooler Pump
4) Intercooler Fans
5) Not connected.

LEDs:
1) Low Fan (Engine)
2) Hi Fan (Engine)
3) Intercooler Pump
4) Intercooler Fans

So why would I need LEDs if I already have switches with LED's? Simple. When the PCM commands low speed fan operation, for example, my low fan LED lights up. My switch is off so its LED is not lit. The same holds true for the high fan and intercooler fans (controlled by my digital dual gauge).

Hope all this makes sense. And yes, I am an engineer. Please don't ask for pics. I don't have any -- really. I do have pics of my power distribution fuse box in the engine compartment though.... My friends can tell you I'm kind of querky when it comes to this kind of stuff. In fact, I hesitated sharing this info. You just caught me at exactly the right time....

BTW, the gauge face on the Autometer pod is kind of cheap looking. It's a shiny molded plastic..... at least the black one is.

Guys, if you'd like to contact me for further info, please copy and paste my reply and e-mail me (tplsz87@***.net) and I'll share more info. I may edit / delete this reply very soon.

Jeff,

OMG, I don't believe you "found" me so quickly. I mean how many here also own a third gen???? Coolness....

Ten years ago, I owned three 1987 Z28s, a red convertible, a white coupe and a blue convertible. Today, I own a red '05 GT, a white IROC-Z (same one) and a blue '05 V6.......

BTW, I still moderate two forums at thirdgen.org......

If you ever snap some pics, please post. This sounds like a great setup, albeit one that not everyone can handle...

Well, okay but I've got to take some first. Honestly, I don't have any except of my add-on fuse block in the engine compartment with a couple of other goodies. I built the box. I also assembled the DRL circuit and assembled the box for it. Here are two pics.

Oops sorry. I have not been able to upload any pics on this website for the last couple of days. I know there's a couple others who've had the same problem.....

You have to keep your pic size under 200k. I run my pics through Photoshop elements 2.0 with the "save for web" function. That reduces file size, but looks just as good.

Thanks for the info but I believe the problem lies within this site. I know of a couple other guys who have also attempted uploading pics and have been unsuccessful too. This problem started about three days ago. My pics are usually in the 25k - 50k range. I just double-checked this and it's verified. I e-mailed Brad the admin about this today but no reply yet....

It appears the option to upload pics has disappeared. The only way now is to find a hosting site and link to it. It looks like no more pics for me at this website....

Prior to choosing the Autometer cluster, I contacted Shelby. They were not available about one month ago. I also mentioned to them that I was going to redo their face plate so I could incorporate three 2-1/16" gauges AND have sufficient space for my switches, LEDs, etc...... I would have gone with this cluster if it had been available.
