anyone flip their headrests over like this guy?

i recently went to sears to check out that tool sale they were having and just as i was pulling into my spot, an older couple pulled into the one right in front of me when an 06 GT. i ofcorse said, nice car and he wanted to know how i keep it so clean ahahaha.

anyway, as i was leaving sears, something caught my eye and it was his headrests. he took them off and reversed them. i guess the angle was bothering them or something. i was just wondering if anyone else did the same thing. personally i love these headrests, they dont make me have to sit back all the way like im lounging to get some good head/neck support.

here is a picture i show with my camera phone. its extremely overcast out there and again, the picture was taken with my cell phone. i tried to lighten up the area so you could see what i was talking about.

Odd, but clever if the headrests were bothering them. Wonder how much neck support they are gonna get in a crash tho.

I guess that would help if your helmet hits the headrest at the track

My wife can't stand the headrest pushing into her ponytail. Maybe, this is a solution for her.

I tried this last year.
Personally I tried it because I would like the headrest back about 1 inch.
Backwards they are way more than 1 inch.
If a passenger complains they are having trouble resting on a long trip it may help.
If I want to take a nap in the car, I find this position much better.

It's fine for a nap while a car is sitting still. But anyone who understands the crash forces on the human body would shake their head if they saw this. No way in heck that'll be happening in my car.

Smart idea! It could be alleviating a problem created by a forward seat angle... my headrest is annoyingly forward if the seat angle is a touch too far forward. Maybe it's easier for them to get in and out with the seat tilted forward?

I'm a guy and I have the same complaint! I always wear a ponytail and the **** headrest is constantly bothering me. Sure wish it had a rake adjustment.

I don't think I'll flip them around though - seems it would defeat the purpose in an accident.

In an accident I think the headrest in stock posistion would drive your chin into your chest. I feel it is tilted to far forward also.

It's hilarious to hear people talk about how terrible it would be to not have any support from the headrests in their '05+ Mustangs. What do you think it was like in the "old days" back in 2004? This is the first Mustang I've ever driven (owned '65, 88, & '03) that had headrests that would actually support your head.

You're absolutely right. There were many more neck injuries in the old cars without headrests.

Not only does it look kinda dumb, but I don't think it is worth the whiplash you'd get in an accident.

+1

It doesn't really bother me however I am hoping to do some autocrossing this year and am concerned about the helmet.

+1 I agree with multiple posts above, let us know when you get a neck injury/whiplash.

I noticed that MRT sells an optional tilting headrest kit, but it only comes in black.

Actually they are made by TMI. I tried to buy them a couple of years ago from MRT, but no one seemed to be able to tell me anything about them, or know anything about them.

I contacted TMI directly and they sent me to a dealer who actually wanted to sell them. The are available in any color, and while expensive, they did quiet my wife down complaining about the factory ones. Worth every penny.
