I took my car to the tint shop yesterday and the first thing the tech said was that the way the window channel is designed, it will be prone to scratching when dirt accumulates and then you raise and lower the windows. He suggested to either:

1. Always leave the windows up.

2. Taking a damp cloth and cleaning the soft rubber/vinyl on the inside of the channel regularly. This will remove most of the dirt that will accumulate.

Have you had anyone tell you this? Any one else having this problem?

Search the forum, there should be a thread.

What I remember is that some people are having the rubber/vinyl replaced so that it doesn't scratch the tint.

One of the reasons I don't get tint on my windows, is because of scratching. Even with felt channels, you're still going to get scratches over time unless you are ultra-ultra particular about how clean you keep your car, and also when you lower and raise the windows. Not worth the headaches for me personally. :notnice: Now....if the windows were actually tinted dark themself, instead of having a film on top of the glass, I would pay the x-tra $$$ in a heartbeat

Mine is less than one month old and has developed scratches. FORD rep is coming in tomorrow to look at it and make a determination if they will replace the seal and retint the windows under warranty or not.

I will report back...............

Good Luck to you....... you changed something from factory (adding tint), so they are not liable in any way. If they fix it for you, then consider yourself lucky.

Same prob, it is the rubber gasket or 'regulator' in the window. The interior one is hard plastic on the 05 compared to previous years they Had a felt lined gasket. the window tinters are going to instal felt lining on the regulators on both doors for 40$ and replace the Llumar tint for free!

ps, mine was the top of the line llumar which is supposed to be scratch resistant and it scratched it the first time i rolled the windows down and back up.

Hey Dave..... just noticed the user-name and the color of your car don't jell. Did you do a color change in midstream?

Despite changing something, Every mustang in every advertisement in the auto industry for that is shown with dark windows and tinted windows.
Window tinting is not an abnormal thing to do and some dealers even do it so to say ford is not liable because you added tint is rediculous, the stupid regulators would have scratched glass over time. So, If you have had this problem, MAKE SOME NOISE so Ford Stops using this for future stangs and they come to a reasonable response on those it has happened to.

My car has been tintned since November. 4 months later and my windows look terrible ... Many scratches. I thought about removing the tint on the door glass but
am afraid the glass will simply start to show scratches in a year or so.

Mine have not scratched and come to think of it, I have never had a scratch on window tint ever on any car I have owned.

My drivers side window scratched after I got my windows tinted. The dealership replaced the window, fixed whatever scratched the window and retinted the window. No problems since then.

Geez......I am glad I read this thread. I was seriously considering tint but may want to rethink it.

Mine was tinted by the dealer. You would hope that they would be knowledgeable enough to see the different seal and make a note to the customer that it MAY scratch, would you like to replace the seal before I tint the windows. I would have done so as someone said it costs $40. Minimal amount to me to be sure that the seal wont scratch $200 tint job. If FORD wont fix it, the dealer could still step up and do the right thing, but we will see.

Have had the tint for 2 months now, no issues.

I've had tint in the past and never had issues either... I do use "tint-friendly" cleaning solution at least twice a week on the door windows though. Not sure if it actually helps or not, but seems to.

I'll have to give that cleaning solution a shot - definitely don't want scratches on my 1-week old tint job.

I'm skeptical. It sure makes sense, but I wonder why this problem is NOT widespread.

Besides the few people that have have responded in this thread, there are plenty of people with tint jobs that haven't had this happen. I still have the hard rubber seal, and have had the tint on since the end of Janurary and it still looks like the day it was done

man my tint is all scratched up, seems to be getting worse as well.
I havent had the time to take it to the installer that the dealer used.
my dealer said they will pay for the repairs. but if they are going to scratch again I may not.
