Another AVIC D3 Install
Another satisfied Pioneer AVIC D3 customer here.........
Great unit, very easy to use- nice navigation, great video, good sound & options. I installed it using the bypass as noted on www.avic411.com so I can watch the videos while in drive- works great. Nice unit overall, very happy! Came complete with all nav accessories needed, a free license plate rear view camera (kinda cheesy looking, but free) and mounting hardware, etc. I installed an accessory switch for the rear camera, so I can use it whenever I want- not just when in reverse.

Hey Tom, thanks for the info. Any chance I can you could PM me a number that I can give you a ring (if your okay with this), when my D3 arrives, incase I have any install questions? Never installed an aftermarket radio before. I'm guessing you connected the wires in the engine bay to get the Vehicle Performance Screen to read? Also, how did you connect the wiring harness to the radio? Did you use those quick connect things, or did you solder it? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks bud!!
BTW, for anyone who has a Discover card, and you have unused reward $$$ just sitting, Crutchfield is a partner. You can get a $50 gift card for $40. For me, I have $300 to redeem. This means I can have $350 in cards (7 cards total, can't combine into one), for the price of $280!! This will make my D3 only $600 out of pocket plus the Ipod cable.
. Just a thought for anyone on the fence.

PM sent Jeff!
There is only one wire to connect in the engine bay.... it connects at the front of the PCM on the passenger-side of the engine bay. I use butt connectors for all wiring..... I do like to solder too but the butt connectors work just fine, IF you have the correct type of crimpers.
When you get yours, PM or call and I'll help out however I can. Also read up at www.avic411.com. Its a pretty cool website although some of the dudes are......well...... nerds.

I've had mine installed for the past 5k miles. Love it. And let me add it looks much better in person then in the posted pics(no offense
) The system doesn't look as glossy in person. Anyone who sees it for the first time asks if its a factory system.

How and where do you get the wire through the fire wall? one spot I found is too high up to reach from the inside, and the other is behind the brake master cylinder.
I mounted the satellite antennas for the nav system and Sirius just behind the radio on a steel bar that is back there, everything works fine. Sirius will cut out in my driveway but there are a lot of trees at that point.

Thanks Tom. One quick question. With the wire install in the engine bay. Did you have to strip the wire to connect it? Is there any chance you can take a picture of this connection? Just want to get a visual of what its suppose to look like, thats all. Thanks again, and when it comes in and if I run into problems, I'll give you a call.
Thanks.

Pix...... sorry for the quality but you'll get the idea........
Passenger-side firewall grommet...... cut away some of the insulation and you'll find plenty of room:

VSS wire..... top plug of the PCM- note I tapped into this wire about 6" away from the PCM inside of the factory loom.
