Paying $200 extra for the cup holder plastic is a bit much IMHO, but who am I to tell people what to spend. Some may think what I've done is a bit much lol. The switch that comes with the $245 kit can be mounted however you want. You can even flush mount it in the same place as the over priced OEM part.

Nothing beats (or seldom beats) OEM for look and finish. But it sounds as though you already have your mind set to go with the kit instead.

If you don't care about OEM look and such, go with the kit. As you said, you will save money.

But the OEM parts can be had cheaply these days if you look around:

I am curious about something. If I just want the light up the cup holders, do I need to connect to the SJB? Wouldnt connecting to the tranny be enough?

Mine is hooked up to the 3wire plug by the transmission lever. Works great. I couldn't see running a wire that far, since I had all the junk under the dash from the SYNC and navi install. lol

It says to tap into the wire that is blue with a yellow strip.
The picture is a red wire with a blue strip.

So which is it?

If you can wait until Monday or Tuesday, I will recheck how it is supposed to be wired. I am out of town until then.

Found it. It's the red with blue strip on the upper connectors. I believe its the 3rd smaller one instead of the large one. The same place you connect SYNC to.
The cup holder lights now turn on when I start the car.

Sorry - so did you have to use the connections behind the passenger kick panel, or did you do everything within the console?

Yes I used the connection behind the SJB.
You can use the connection from the tranny. This will allow you to turn it on/off with the head light switch.
The way I wired it, lights up when turning on with the car, just like the window buttons.
If you need pics, LMK.

If you're offering, pics would be great. I bought a used console from eBay and am hoping to knock the install out this weekend.

Sorry for the delay. You figured it out anyway, but here it is for others just in case:

The connector is 2280H located on the back of the SJB. You are tapping into the wire from pin 5 on that connector. On 07-09 cars, that wire is purple, while on 05-06 cars it is blue with yellow stripe.

As long as it is from pin 5, then you are wiring it as Ford does it.

Thank you for the great write up on the install I just used it today to install my lights. I ordered a used set someone was selling on Ebay they sent me the whole thing from the console to the LEDs. They sent me the wiring harness for under the dash but not the one from there to the center console so your write up on the harness you made was most helpful. I got lucky and was able to use the connectors from the dash harness (since I wasn't going to use it) and make up the harness for the front leds. The one down side was my car didn't have the wire in pin #5 on the SJB it was blank so I had to pull one of the terminals from the harness I was sent to put in the port. Thanks to your write up I was able to do the install with no problems Thank You

Bringing back an old thread!

What is the wiring if you want to just wire to the plug near the transmission lever?
