2006 Seat Removal SRS Question
2006 Seat Removal SRS Question
Hello,
I'm gutting my interior soon so I can install some sound deadening and I keep seeing different instructions for removing the seats. Is disabling SRS mandatory? I mean I plan on completely disconnecting my battery so the car won't have any power at all during this entire process. Would that be enough, or do I still have to remove fuses and depower SRS separately? Thanks!!

The normal procedure I've heard is to simply yank the negative cable off the battery, then wait 20 minutes. Done.
However, any and all other manners to not have exploding bits in your car is always a good idea, so... do them all?
/Unless one of them says something about a chicken.
//Those poor chickens, lost for no reason...
///but tasty, though.

I hear ya...I guess I should look them all up, I guess I just wanted confirmation from someone who has removed the seats and only disco'd the battery. I don't understand why anything needs to be done other than that tho...did you remove your seats?
Thanks for the pdf. At least now I have the proper instructions. My main question tho was is it necessary to do all of that if you are gutting the interior and disconnecting the battery completely? I mean I can see how you'd want to disable SRS if replacing the steering wheel or removing the door panels on a car with side air bags(my car doesn't have these)...but I don't know what it would hurt if you removed the seats without doing this first...I guess I should just do it...I mean all you really have to do is remove a fuse and turn the car on and off a couple times...the consensus here is to do this, so I guess I will, but has anyone taken out the seats without doing this? The pdf also mentions doing this if you remove the door panels...but I've never seen anyone talk about doing this prior to installing door speakers..

Well then, that is a whole different story. I figured since you were asking about the SRS, you must have seat side airbags. DOH! Never mind then. Go ahead and disconnect your battery and yank your interior. I had to depower my seat airbags when I tore my interior out for my dynamat project.
Have fun!

As for years, they were optional on the 2005, so of course I had to order them.
That's great info...I think I do have them then...I guess I'll check after I leave work today. Thanks...you possibly saved me from having my seats blowing apart in my hands!
Yeah, looks like I'll be doing it too. I'll know for sure if I have side air bags in the next 5 minutes anyways.
Doesn't look like it. I didn't see anything in the stitching....so I don't think I do. If they're not standard I doubt if I have it. My car was a rental in its past life....only upgrades were leather seats & the IUP wheel. I'm still going to deactivate SRS just in case. Thanks for the input everyone!
