120 MPH speedometer with 140 MPH gauge face
#1
I have a V6 with IUP. I want to install the Steeda 140 MPH white face gauges (GT version). The RPM and MPH gauges do not correspond.
Is there a way to adjust the computer or the IUP dash modules to accomodate this mod? Has anyone done this?

Only way I can think is messing with the tire size on a tuner (predator or SCT) and if that's not enough, change the gears in the tuner... I don't know, that's with my little experience. Maybe someone else can shed more light for you

The cluster would have to be flashed with a custom prog (b/c of v6). No way you are going to find anyone that can do it. You would need a breakout box and custom flash software from Delphi, as well as CAN software to run it $$$$$$.

First, You can't flash the cluster.
Second, what's a breakout box?
Third, a canned software?
You can play around with any tuner for the V6...
- Change the gears (in the tuner), that will recalibrate your speedo.
- Change the tire size, that will recalibrate your speedo.
None of these changes require $$$$$$$ other than the tuner. Look into it.

The cluster can be flashed. The S197 is CAN.
You may be able to do it by the gear / tire recali. But I do not think you will be able to get there with method, for a 120 to 140 mph cluster. Hopefully I am wrong. Has to do with the allowable gear ratios that can be entered into the PCM, another words Ford has limited what can be entered.

I had understood that the ECU controls what happens in the cluster, but you don't connect anything directly to the cluster to flash it.
As far as the allowable gear ratios... I think the limit is how many different gears you have in your tuner. Once you've reflashed your car computer, it just doesn't matter what Ford put there, it's all under a new program.
There's an Excel Spreadsheet floating around, with Tire Sizes, Gear Ratios, Transmission Gear Ratios and speed at all the different RPMs. Look it up in the Exterior Section, under threads that talk about wheels and tires.

The ECU does not tell it what type of cluster it is. The cluster is programed independent from the ECU. Delphi makes two different clusters only. This is for all the variants (ie. V6 or V8 and IUP or non-IUP this includes the GT500 even though the Tach is switched, it is the same cluster (when I say cluster I mean the internals, housing, PCB etc.) )
That is it. If saleen had a V6 cluster applique & program, they could flash it, but they don't, maybe Roush does.
As far as the gears it IS all up to what Ford will allow, and I'm pretty sure there is a max. and you won't be able to get there. There was a problem with using larger OD wheel the speedo could not be corrected using that method, try it though may work, I will though this out I have no first hand experence on that, clusters yes.

You can't just change the gears or tire size in the computer to make the speedo show the correct speed because this will make the Odometer reading false, which is a crime. Plus it's unlikely that you will find a setting that gives you accurate speed and RPM.
Also, if you have the Message center none of the stuff there will work correctly, except maybe the Gallons used portion and the timer.
My guess is that you will have to buy a GT cluster. But that's only a guess.
