Will Dealerships EVER offer REAL racing stripes
So we've obviously all seen the GT with the full bumper to bumper racing stripes, but will FORD ever get their act together and offer them as an option. I mean, it seems awefully rediculous to take a GT with the REAL racing stripes to all the shows, but not to offer it as an option.

well they offer it now, as a dealer add on. vinyl stripes. if you mean paint stripes i'm not sure...i think i heard some murmuring a while back about that sort of thing being available in '06. besides...it might be cheaper to jsut get them painted on after you buy the car than having the dealer charger you an outrageous amount for it.
guess we'll have to wait and see.

i dont think he was refferring to paint in general but just stripes that go all the way down to the bottom of the bumpers. n i dunno if they will, but they sure as heck should!!

The dealerships GM told me they were going to work up a fixed price for painting on the wide stripes. I just have not checked back for the reason there is salt on the roads and the GT is stored till spring.
With white stripes being the best on the silver, it has to be a clean spray booth and I would have to see the work on someone elses first and then decide if I would want them to do it. I have heard of a good place to go just recently. I plan on checking their work out also.

With all the fancy schmancy high tech stuff at AAI how computerized is the painting process?? It would seem to me that they could do a computer controlled stripe job very easily and better than any human every could. Would require the car to pass through the paint booth perhaps an extra time or two but still...would be awesome to check a box on the order and have those coveted Shelby stripes.

It would cost a fortune to have something complicated like stripes done on the line. Dealers have pinstripe guys typically that also do commerical graphics and can custom cut and install stripes. If you ask the right person, it can usually be aranged any way you like. You can also just go to a pro vinyl shop and get them done for 400-600, color and width of choice

This 05 mustang is the best I have seen in person. Real painted stripes, very nice work from the dealership $1500 + MSRP.

That Red/Wht is nice, do you know the width and gap size? I went to a body shop to inquire about painting stripes on my performance white GT when it comes in. He suggested going with a dark grey base then a candy red over it. It will look almost black in at night but dark red in the daylight. I wanted black or grey but I have red leather interior, so I thought that was a good idea. Now I have to decide how wide I want them and the gap.

Did you get any other pictures? That is the first non-show car Torch Red with white stripes I have seen. Can you tell us any more about it? Sent you a PM.
Thanks, Drew

Only the side stripes were vinyl originally. The LeMans (top) stripes were painted on the Shelby's.
Robyn,
Not sure if you are planning on tinting your windows or not, but if so, I wouldn't worry too much about matching the red leather interior. You could have the black or gray stripes that you want, and not have any sort of "clash" with the red (not that it necessarily would anyway).

Yes, I do plan to tint the windows and I agree, black or grey would be fine. I just liked the idea of having a hint of red. Would be different, not something everyone would have. He is going to paint me a sample to see what it will look like. It's tough to tell from those little paint chips in the book. Looks black indoors but when you take it out in the sun you can see the red. Not that you can tell from looking at these online but here's a good website if anone is interested in paint.

On the way home from a trip we stopped at Bill Bass Ford west of Cleveland, they had many of the Mustangs with painted stripes the supplemental sticker had the strips being $2200.00 they were very well done. They also had a Ford GT (40) in the showroom, wow!
