My '00 GT vert came with 245/45/17's (Gatorbacks. ugh) but much firmer ride than the current set up.

Probably a cost reason, also remember that this is a whole new platform, it may not require the same tires to get the same ride quality. They also know that people that are buying for performance are most likely going to upgrade the tires anyway.

In late 05 early 06 when the 18 inchers become available the tire size from what I've read is boing to be 255/45-ZR18.

Yeah - you are probably right - the '05 chassis is MUCH stiffer than my '00 GT was - perhaps Ford is trying to "soften" the ride a bit by using those butt ugly and skyscaper tall 235/55's - can't wait to get my aftermarket Torque Thrust II's with 18/255/45 tires...thing is going to handle like it's on rails!!

sheeat - the Ford 500 comes with 18" wheels - Ford are you listening??

I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. The 17's were to be BFGoodrich as well and we got stuck with Pirelli's. Even the Canadian brochure shows that they should be performance tires on the GT, and they show the BFGoodrich Gforce-TA KDW-NT tires but the car came with Pirelli all-season.

FORD needs a good smack in the head or a

If I showed a computer to a customer and said "This is the model I am selling" and then gave them something different they would flip.

That is because the BF Goodrich come on the V6 models. They are 215/65/16 Traction TA's

I'm looking at the Coddington Smoothy II rims in 18x9 and 18x10 sizes. Should look nice. Now to save up the case for the rims. And wait for the car to show up...

Look at the skidpad numbers for the GT(0.89 as tested by C&D), that is probably a pretty good reason they put the tires on it that they did.

I was going to get the same rims until I saw them in person. I can't stand the major seam that is created when they join the 2 pieces.

That stinks to hear that. I'll definitely have to get my eyes on them in person to make sure it isn't something that I won't like either. Thanks for the heads up bud!

Let me join the HATE PIRELLI club. 1400 miles on those roller skates convinced me. I put 255/50/17 BFG GFORCE KDWS on my ride. No looking back.

If I lower my ride with Eibachs, then I may go for less sidewall, but I will not go bigger than 17 inch rims.
