What's the thinking on quarter window scoops?
What's the thinking on quarter window scoops?
I like the look of some of the scoops, but non-functional items bother me a little, and I don't want to draw critisism to my car.
I guess I could argue that previous gen mustangs had phony appearance scoops.
What's the theory around here?

I'm not a big fan of non-functional either but side scoop's don't bother me personally...I would advise you not to worry about what other's think and go for what you like. There are a lot of cool options out there to choose from...

They are non-functional, complete the look I seeked, and do not hinder its performance.

1/4 window scoops are fine by me. I happen to think the CDC louvered scoops and the SHR Scoops are the best looking ones. I just can't decide between the two. CDC ones look good but aren't flush. SHR one's look good but you have to remove your 1/4 window and it doesn't look to good from the inside.
The fake scoops look silly.
Now, if someone would come out with the correct 12 louvered window louvers in pressed aluminium instead of ABS plastic, then I'd consider louvers on a new Mustang as being cool.

I don't like them and I think they would look awfully silly on my car!
Seriously, though, I have a friend who had the solid ones (Xenon) on for awhile and he took them off because he said they created a blind spot. I'm not sure about the louvered ones, though.

I have the Cervinis ones on my car, and yes they do create blind spots, but you just have to learn to use your mirrors a little better. I love the look of the car so much better with the scoops on than before, in my opinion it just gives the car a more aggressive look.
If your worried about them being nonfunctional, just think of them as functional sun shades. They keep some light out of the car. Not much but at least you can say they have a function.
It all comes down to personal preference. I like mine and I am sure some think they look stupid. You pay the bills, so you make the decisions.

Do you have any more pics? Looks good, and the Cervinis and Razzis are the two I like best.
Well, I have to vote for these...
And we're working on an interior trim option to dress it up on both sides. Given that they don't imapir visibility nearly as much as others out there, if you're in the market for a louver setup, what's not to like ? And like I said in the other thread, it took me longer (literally) to replace the headlights on my F350 than it did to swap the glass out.

Razzi
Astra Hammond
Cervinis
By a wide margin, the Cervinis are the best. They are much better made, come with perforated metal screening, and look the closest to 1968 GT500 side window scoops. I'm going to open up the rear vents on my Cervinis when I put them on.
Your car, your wallet, your choice ... but since you asked (uh, oh)
I'm a bit of a purist about "keep'n it real" with the Stang and am adament about not putting "fake" anything on any car, just the visual equivalent of gold chains or stuffing a sock down your pants and no better than all the fake gingerbread "Ricers" festoon on their legions of stock Civics and Corollas. If it's clearly a stylistic item, fine, but putting on something that's pretending to be something else, that's where I draw the line. It's all about the visual and design credibility.
That all said, I don't mind the Silver Horse Racing window louvers as they don't kill your rear quarter vision (for nothing) and don't really fake it too much by pretending to be real scoops. As for side scoops, unless they're really scooping some cool air to the brakes, probably not a bad idea given the Stang's proclivity to brake fade, then keep the flanks clean.
Spend your bucks on things that will actually make the Stang a better performing car, not things that make it look as if it were a better performing car to the unknowing. If those things also happen to make it both perform AND look better, then you've hit the design ideal of form AND function.

Someone needs to provide directions to the nearest Autobaun to test those functional hood and side scoops.
Contrary to the myth, functional scoops do not function under legal speed limits.
Go for what YOU like, and ignore everyone else.
I got Xenon, the Side and Window scoops. Why? Because I like the way they look.
As far as functional, I don't really care I am more about the looks. Shaker adds very little if ANY performance gains, but I don't care. I like the look.
Check my sig for Pictures of the scoops and the entire car.
