I am looking to get a set of 255-45-18's for my 05 GT. I leaning towards the Nitto NT 555's but I was also looking at the BFG KDW's and the Yokohama AVS S2's. Does anyone have an experience or recommendations? I am not looking to spend too much money.

Thanks
Rob

I have a set of BFG GFORCE 255/50/17s and love them. Good price too. Very sticky tire.

The Kumho Ecsta MX tires I just bought are, so far, the best tires I have ever owned...and they're cheap too! But, I'm guessing their lifespan will be less than 10,000 miles. For a longer life tire, I had very good luck with the Yokahama AVS ES100. They lasted quite a while and held up great at many open track events I participated in.

I'm giving the Nitto's a try on mine as soon as I get it.

The 255/50-17 Nitto 450's that is.

IF you have the $$$ - go for the Bridgestone Potenza S0-3 Pole Positions.

I had these on my '02 WRX and it stuck like crazy glue. But - you can save over $50 per tire and go with the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW2s. The BFs got a good review at TireRack.com

If you really want to do it on a budget get the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWS in 17s (like 38special)....you can put them on the stock wheels. And they look real tight!!!

A-REX will be putting on 18" S0-3s on Ford Racing wheels (the F500 model) when he takes delivery sometime in the spring of '06.

I'll say that I've had the best luck with BFGs. I had Comp T/As on my '98 and they wore very straight, never chopped up and didn't ever loose balance. They were pretty sticky and had a good life on them. I don't know how they fair in comparision to the KDWs, but if I were you, I'd shop more for the road conditions you're goig to be driving. If you're in Toronto, I'm assuming you get more snow than we get here in Colorado, and for snow, the BFGs blew.... but they were designed for dry weather. they did well channeling water too, but you need something that is going to clear snow from the lugs... If you can afford it, I'd go with an all season or a snow tire for the winter, and then get you some good rubber for the summer. The thing I look for most in a summer tire is the ability to channel water. If you can't do that in the rain, you'll wind up in the ditch.
Again, I had great luck with my BFGs and they were relatively inexpensive.... for a ZR rated tire. I can't speak to the wear patterns of the others you mentioned... perhaps someone else can shed some light on them.
I've been kinda shyin' away from BFG because they're made my Michelin which is made by those F'in French.... but I'm sure those darn Canadians would rather buy French than American, or anyone else than American for that matter.

Same tire I am getting when I switch. I wouldn't recommend the Nitto 555, as mentioned at the top of this thread. That's a drag tire... practically a slick. Get the 450's. Basically same aggressive tread pattern, but an all-season tire made for wet traction.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I will be getting dedicated snow tires so these ones will be strictly summer tires. I have heard really good things about the S0-3's but I am not sure if I want to spend that much money.

I will also look into the Nitto 450's. I didn't realize the 555's were so aggresive.

Check out Sumotomo at Tire rack. Good prices & they last. We race a little 4 cyl circle track car & you have to use street tires. The Sumo's are great.

I'm going to get the michelins. good ratings, and I've had them on all my Hondas and have put easily 40,000miles on them with tread left.

Anybody know what tread life is like on the KDWs? I'm used to all terrain tires on my jeep (50 thousand miles on my MTRs and about 50% tread left!) so going down to 20k or something like that would be a bit of a shock.

I would also recommend Kuhmo MX's or Toyo T1S's. Both are great tires and you cant go wrong with either. I read that Toyo is coming out with T1R's, which are sticker than the T1S and perform better in the wet. When this tire comes out, it will be on my stang.

the only tires I will put on any of my cars are Dunlop`s...I used to use BFG`S but after switching to Dunlop`s there is not a real comparison in my opinion...I have tried Bridgestone but I just got a better feel from Dunlop`s and they just came out with 2 new tires that I have heard good reviews on...They are designed for supercars and high performance cars they are called SP Super Sport Race...the other tire is a step down from that designed for sport compacts etc. they are called Direzza DZ101..

Someone should get BFG's but have the white lettering showing. I'd love to see it, especially on a Black one. Thats going to look sweet. I will get that done whenever I get mine.

Very impressed with them on my Probe GT. Sticky, tread life is a bit short but well worth it. Ride might be a bit rougher because of the stiff sidewall ribbing they use. But I still think most people will love them.

255 45R18 for me as well whenever I can get my hands on those Ford 18" fanblades or some sweet aftermarket rims.
