What paint to use for the brake calipers?
#1
Does the paint "HAVE TO BE" high temp paint for the brake calipers? I found a "rustolium" brand paint for metal , that matches almost perfect, but it doesnt say "high temp" on it................ Can I use it without worry?
Thanks

Only use it if you enjoy repainting them about once a month. Trust me....it will look good for a few days or even weeks, but eventually it will start flaking off and you will have to start all over, not to mention cleaning off the old paint is far worse than doing it right the first time (been there). It took me 4 times as long removing the bad spray paint with a wire brush and dremel than it took to paint them in the first place.
Spend a few bucks and do it right - and it will last for years. I prefer a two part epoxy type paint. I have had the best luck with the brush on types because you can use several coats and it ends up much thicker - so the potential of a rock chip etc is much less.
As far as brands....as long as it is a two part epoxy specifically made for calipers, you should be ok. I have used Savage in the past, but I have used another brand as well (can't recall who it was at the moment) but it worked equally well. Just take your time and prep, prep, prep. Most kits come with some brake cleaner, but you would be smart to pick up an extra can and ensure you do a great job cleaning them up before you start. Tape off the areas you don't want to paint or you can even take the calipers off the discs if you are up to it (I wouldn't, but that is a matter of preference).
Just take your time and I'm sure they will turn out great.
Edit: Changed "break" to "brake" so I wouldn't look like an idiot.

Hey Rene. A little off topic, but you might be interested. I painted the part on my tires tht says "p zero nero" with a red paint pen. It turned out great. For $3 you can't go wrong. Maybe you could look into this too as it would be a great addition to the yellow calipers. I myself am going with the duplicolor.

No Pep Boys by me, I do have a Western Auto Store, I checked Napa Parts and Parts Plus with no luck. :notnice:
Ordering on line is a risk because of color matching, but if someone can reccommend a brand and color, I would be willing to try it.
If i do the red 4.5 high performance emblems on the fenders, i will think about the red paint pen idea.
I still have my hood shocks to put on, I painted the brackets tonight with the rustolim paint, and they match great.
If anyone knows of a good caliper paint that matches the screaming yellow, PLEASE let me know........... :worship:

Check Ebay. I once saw a guy who offered caliper paint to match any body color. You had to give him your car's paint code and he would match the paint. I am not sure if he is still there or not. This was way back in Nov when I saw him.
He seem new to ebay at the time and had you send money for the kit, then a second payment for shipping. Sounded weird, but if he is still around, maybe he has something good.
