vossen wheels
I was going to order a set of vossen wheels (20x9 and 20x10.5) and the company that I was going to order from said that I would have to shave the outer edge of the brake caliper. Have any of you heard of this? They also said that I would need to use a 3mm spacer. I'm not sure if this is correct or not it is the first I have ever heard of it.

Your wheels are only as cool as how well you can stop your car.
That didn't make sense, but I wouldn't touch the brake caliper to make rims fit; unless you're going BBK.

I did the same (shaving, not spacers) on two cars for my MRR GT1s, and they were fine.
I used to feel the same way...HEAVENS NO, DON'T TOUCH THE CALIPERS! ARE YOU MAD?! But honestly, I only needed to grind some of the casting crap off the outer perimeter, smooth it, and then paint it. If those few millimeters are what my stopping power is relying on, I probably had bigger problems...
So my answer, as someone who has actually done it, would be "it depends." I literally only had to grind for a few seconds to eliminate the interference. Anything more involved than that, and I'd have to think harder about it.
Can't comment on the spacers, haven't run them before. However, I like to make as little concessions as possible, so I'd probably skip wheels that needed spacers.

TireRack sent me slip-in 5mm spacers for my ASA wheels, I do use them but not sure I really need to. I have no rubbing with 275s all around.
For the big 1/2" or 1" spacers, it's a whole other story. Those pictures above aren't horribly helpful, not even the blown up ones, hard to see if they're running spacers.
I'd find out ASAP what offsets Vossen makes, and what the company you're going through is trying to sell you.
Beautiful wheels, though.

Sorry I missed this earlier, but the Vossen wheels we have on our car were a no-problem install. WE've got the GT500 brakes on "Twisted Six" and there is no fitment issue, and this is on a 19" set. I would *imagine* that the 20" would have even more clearance, although a quick check of their offset charts should answer the question for you.

Those are the type VVS082 Monoblock with 19x8.5 fronts and 19x10 rears. Some of the truest non-modular (3 pc. race) wheels I've ever seen balance up. They run very true, and fit nice. We were supposed to do a photo shoot with them for their website, but never got back with them before we left Vegas - maybe we'll get with them one day down here since they are in S. FL and it is only 3 hours away. I'll probably start getting some new photos of the car now that SEMA is over with, and do it justice. In the meantime here they are while we were installing the Brembo brakes on the car (ignore the ride height due to jack not shown in the photos).
