17 is a cooler number.

Seriously, that's why I prefer 17s to 18s.

18's will fill out the wheel wells in my Mach.
:bang: We've been over this 100 times before. The 18's will not fill out the wheel wells better, because they 18" tires have the same diameter as the 17's. The wheels may be bigger, but the sidewalls are shorter making for the same overall size.
I'll be lowering the car anyways, so i'm getting 18's from the aftermarket and 295's in the back, possibly 265's up front. Lot of my friends have that set up and it just look awasome...

Repeat of what some have already said. The diameter of a 235/55/17 is exactly the same as 255/45/18. (27 inches)

I prefer the 17s on the 94+ cars. It doesn't really matter to me if the new car gets 17s or 18s, although I prefer the look of the 18s on it right now. To me, it''s ultimately all about what set of rims compliment the car instead of sticking out more than the car itself.

This way the spedo & odo will read the same and the the T/C, ABS and A/T will all function properly without software changes no matter which OEM tires are on the car. That may not be the case if you change the tire diameter.
You're saying that if i get 235/55/18 OEMs that it would work the same for the spedo and odo?

No, because 5 is the greater odd number. Odd numbers > Even numbers.

personally speaking.. i dont have the cash to upgrade to 18s. im assuming a factory 18 option would be 1500+ dollars. ill end up getting the concept wheel upgrade, which shoiuld cost less than 500. at least this way ill have a nice shiny wheel, brand spankin new.... rather than the 5 year old bullitts

another thing... after market 18s..... could easily run 2500+. 18 inch wheels are friggin expensive. ill stick with the 17s... and lower the car to fill the wheel well.

Then let's go over this 101 times!

Take a look at this link, and look at how the 18x9, and 18x10.5 with 265/35/18 and 295/35/18 tires respectively fill out the wheel wells to the edge of the fenders! The wheels and tires are flush with the fenders. Unless I am "seeing things"! The width has more to do with it, I understand. However, a 245/35/18, and a 245/45/17 would not be the same diameter. The 18's would have a 15.4mm greater diameter. (Not a whole lot, but not equal.)

Maybe I should have clarified my statement better, stating the 18's (with the width) will be "flush" with the fenders instead of "filling" them. Hope you understand now.

Yes you should have clarified your statement.

You said
18's will fill out the wheel wells in my Mach.
Which is not the case unless you change the tire size too.

Larger width & height 17" tires will fill out the wheels the same way 18's will.

Ford had selected the 16", 17" and 18" OEM tires such that they will ALL have the SAME approximate overall diameter. This way the spedo & odo will read the same and the the T/C, ABS and A/T will all function properly without software changes no matter which OEM tires are on the car. That may not be the case if you change the tire diameter.
Like I stated there would only be a (1in=25.4mm - 10mm sidewall difference) 15.4mm diameter difference with the 18's, which is over 1/2 inch. Not much, but larger.

Which is not the case unless you change the tire size too.
A 245/30/18 has the same diameter as a 245/55/17 .

I will try and clarify further in the future. I forget that people are not mind readers.
I think I have NO idea what I am talking about! Sorry to all!

Wont 295's in the rear and 265's in the front cause rubbing on the fender walls? I want wider tires but if they rub when you hit bumps that is a hefty price to pay.

Just curious how much does that cost to lower the car a few inches?

I love a nice set of rims on a car. For me, they make the car. I'd be willing to spend a bit of money on 18's with some 255's or so all around.

As far as lowering, looking at the pics of the 05, I personally think that the stance is pretty good as is. Lowering it would reduce ride quality. This car doesn't have the same problem as the 99+'s with the 4x4 look. Of course it could be lower but I don't think the improvement in look is worth losing the engineered handling characteristics.

I hated the huge wheel wells on those cars the first time I laid eyes on it and swore I would never get one. Glad I waited!
