Tire size calculator came back with the following...for keeping my overall diameter the same and speedometer pretty much accurate:
For 35-series tires, you will want a tire that is 369 mm wide
For 40-series tires, you will want a tire that is 323 mm wide
For 45-series tires, you will want a tire that is 287 mm wide
For 50-series tires, you will want a tire that is 259 mm wide
I was looking for a 285/45/17, and it seems no one sells them, what is up with that? Anyone had any luck finding anything bigger than a 255 with the same overal diameter as the stock tire?

Yeah, that size would work for me too...although from the calculator, I get a 2.4% difference on the speedo, so for instance at 70mph, the speedo would read 68.3mph. Not that big of a deal I guess.
It would still be nice if they made the 285s though, then the speedo difference would be truly negligible.

If you are going to put 285's on the stock rims be aware that they will bulge like heck and your cornering will actually deteriorate. You need at least 9" wide rims for a 285, better yet 10".

So, Eric, then would the widest tires that would not bulge too much probably be 255s? The stock wheels are what, 8.5"?
I definitely don't want to compromise my handling, and I fully understand what you are saying about z bulge.

I believe the stock rim is 8". That would be about 9" wide. Width listed for a wheel is from bead-to-bead so you add an inch(@1/2" per side) for the thickness f the rim. 255 divided by 25.4 is 10.03". That leaves about 1/2" "bulge" which is not too bad even on a relatively low profile tire.
285/25.4=11.22 so you'd want a 9.5-10" wheel, 9" at the least. I currently have 285s all around on 9.5" 2000 Cobra R wheels on my 03Cobra and they look pretty good.

I wouldn't sweat the speedo issue... just get the tires closest to what you want so you're not spending a huge amount of cash on an oddball size and then flash your PCM to correct the speedo, and have them tune the engine in the same flash.... pick up 30hp....
who woulda thunk that new tires would make your car go faster?

I found that a 285/40/R18 is only .2" bigger than the factory but finding a tire manufacturer is a pain. I want to put those on 10" wide rear rims and 255's on the front with a 9"rim but finding tires and rims is being a big pain

285/40/R18 BFG's on 18x10's. My are in at America's Tire. I went with 255/45/18 18x8's on the front. It was hard to find a matching set. You need a tire person that knows his stuff. This guy is a great friend of my and he can drop ship them to you. PM me if any of you want to get in touch with him.

Cool, thank you
Can you give me a ball park like less then $1,900.00 with tax ?
I was figuring that tires were about $860.00 and the wheels around $960.00
so about $1,820 plus tax, mounting balancing whoop de wooo etc.
If its over 2k I think I might have to look at another wheel/ tire combo, just because that is a little high for 18"'s right now.
