Boomer, whatever tires you want, look at the manufacturer specs to see if they even recommend putting a 285 on an 18x9. Sure, some have done it, but if it is not recommended you shouldn't do it for safety/warranty reasons. There was a big article in July edition of Modified Mustangs about this. Then again, I have been saying this for years. Also, if they recommend a min 9.5" wide rim you could get away with it but the sidewall would buldge a little bit more than the smaller tires on the front. A friend of mine just did this on his car and both he and I hate the look

Yep, check with the manufuctere, but I'd say 9.5's or greater for a 285, otherwise handling could be affected.

I am running 18x9's with 255 in front and 285 in rear with no bulge issues. You can see quite a bit more tread from a 3/4 view which makes the car look mean.

Option 3! With Deepdish! These cars look awesome with the big beefs on back. I don't have any rubbing either and I'm lowered. It's all in the backspace. In fact they fit perfect with about 1/8 clearance from the lip. Tucked in perfectly...

I made the purchase...Choice 1 was the only option for the rims I wanted unfortunately.

They don't make a deep dish 10-10.5 inch rim in Black Chrome right now for the 05.
So I had to choose the 18x9 all around.
Wanted the 285..but... has to be a 9.5inch rim...

So I went with 255s all around
Will post pics when they arrive and are mounted/installed

Thanks for all the opinions guys

No problem... I'll post a new thread when they come in and mounted

As for tires... we're kinda limited on teh 9 inch wide rim.
And if you want to not have to recalibrate... you'll probably want to stick with something similar to what i have.

what looks beefer and more agressive? Either a 285/40/18 or a 295/35/18?

285/40 has a thicker sidewall 4.5 compared to the lower profile 295/30 (4.1) 18 inch
And the 295 is 10mm wider... so that one is beefier from the back, and lower profile from the side

I know it's too late since they've already shipped, but had you thought about 275's on the back? They'd fit the 9 inch rim, and be wider than the front. What sidewall height to get though, that's the question.

I'm going with 255/45-18's all the way around on mine though, sticking with the fan-blades. Some day I might change rims and go wider in back, but for now I think I'll be happy with that.

Well it all depends on if you're changing your ride height right?

255/40 is going to have less sidewall and be a smaller tire,

I wanted to keep the stock ride height, so I went with the 255/45YR18
which is EXTREMELY close to the 235/55ZR17.

I looked at the 275 and it was either 2-3% +/- difference, and I am not lowering the car or wanting to recalibrate the wheels in the PCM (I don't have a tuner)
