Themed Mustangs, Shelby, Saleen, Foose and ME!

Ok, so I've been thinking about what type of theme I want to have for MLP (My Little Pony), some go old school Grabber, some BOSS, others classic 60's, some plain old black themes etc. So I decided on a SHELBYESQUE theme, but I don’t want to make any old reproduction of a GT350 in a modern Stang,, or a clone of a GT500 or Shelby GT.

What I decided to do was a more Modern-Retro Shelby style, using more modern styling cues. I’ve decided not to use any period (67-69) Shelby badges as that would be more of a modern clone, and that's been done, and very well I might add.

What I want to make a Modern Shelby, borrowing on some old school, mixed with modern, and make "My Own" Shelby Style.

So here are some of my ideas. I want a side stripe, but I wanted something different yet, classic. So here are some of my crude renderings... Sorry, but I'm travelling and on my laptop, so forgive the basic MS Paint artistry.

So here is what I’ve come up with for the side stripes. I’m going to be going darker Metalic Grey on the stripes, but that was the best I could do with Microsoft Paint.

Here are the Badges I've already bought

And for the grill, I've bought some plastic ABS Honeycomb, that matches the Ford honeycomb, and will cut out the area between the foglights on the stock GT grill and graft in the blank honeycomb.

And lastly, found a pre-painted Foose Mustang Ducktail on eBay for $59. Thought that gives it a more old school look than the modern GT500 style spoiler.

So, that's the plan. What do you think? I'm ready for the Bring it on. Ultimately, its my Mustang and I'm the one who needs to be happy with it.

Ok, more ideas and descisions. Keeping with my theme of not using old style shelby badges, and trying to look like a Shelby GT/CS6 or GT500, I'm not going to use the shelby" letters on the grill (or anywhere else on the outside. I'm going to make it a plain black recessed grill like a Bullit, but with Fogs.

I do have Shelby sill plates, and thats still up for debate as to whether I'm going to go understated on the interior as well.

More ideas to come, and would love to hear from a few people.

FYI, the "Snakes" are not up for debate, I think they are one of the coolest icons the automotive world ever invented.

Sounds like you've got a good plan in place, I tend to enjoy cars that have a stylistic theme to them. I do like that rear spoiler, you don't see it much and therefore will usually be something unique about your car in most situations.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Subbed! I like the ideas youve got going here. One thing i might add personally would be maybe side exhaust just for kicks. Or have dual exit similar to the current Boss.

I'll have to look and see what the boss looks like.

As for side exit, I would love them, but really don't care for what it would take for the rear bumper to remove the current cutouts for the exhaust.

I was even thinking a set of a Thrush Side-pipes, that would be so retro it would be ridiculous May have to mock that up for the fun of it.

New Side Stripe Idea

So I already ordered the Side Stripes, but got to thinking, its still just a little too much the norm, or its already been done. So I got to thinking, what if I swap the strips, in other words, put them on the opposite side of the car compared to what was intended.

Then I thought, what if I cut some diagonal slits into the front getting progressively larger..

Anyhow, here's what I came up with, the best part is it uses the stripes I currently have in the mail.

What say ye! ????

OK, its been too cold to do much work on the car, but i have decided on a few things.

Parts have started to be gathered, I have a Foose ducktail, and a Agent 47 Grill now.

here is more ideas on the direction i'm going.

1. No Shelby on it anywhere. I'm going to make it mine.

2. Will keep the cobras, I like them and thats that.

3. Across the rear I may put my last name, same as ole' Shelby did, not decided, but hey, why can't I be a brand too?

4. Would like to put something in the side stripe like the 350, 350R etc, I was thinking GTR since its a GT and my last name starts with R, but I've seen a lot of flames for GTR as well as the Nissan by the same name.

Any help here would be appreciated.

Sounds all good to me. I even like the idea of your name across the back. I agree on the no GTR. Maybe 283 instead of 350, since that's approximately our engine size.

Thanks fort the feedback, I believe that 4.6L equates to 281 cubic inches, and I already have the 281 Hi-Po for the front fender. May just leave the stripes blank.

another thought I just had since I'm thinking of adding my last name to the back and my initials are RR, I could do GTRR or GT-RR?

Actually kinda digging the GTRR now that I think of it

waiting for more ideas?

In case anyone cares, I've been working on my custom exterior badging and have some pics to share. Plus I installed the Agent 47 Grill. Got it used and its missing a tab and a bit warped, but usable and vastly better than stock, but would still love to someday find one NIB, or close.

Badges are custom domed urethane, with stock GT500 Cobras. I painted the insides of the Cobras with Vista Blue. So far I'm happy.

I like the emblems, really like the paint you applied to the belly of the cobra. It's a nice touch.

Thanks lowblu, It was a lot of work painting them. It looks like I missed a bunch of spots in the pictures, but it must just be shadows.

The emblems turned out fantastic, in fact I've already had a couple people that thought it was factory.

More EOM Looks

Well, have more done to the Mustang.

For those new to my project, I'm going for a "themed" look. My idea is to make it look as OEM as possible, keeping with my theme of "what if I was Carroll Shelby in 2007" how would I have made a mustang my own, and brand it with MY name.

So the saga continues. I have yet to install the rear spoiler but did have the rear lettering made, using the Ford-Shelby font.

Also had a mini emblem made for my flip key that matches the faux gas cap and wheel center cap emblems.

In case you can't see, the GT cap has a slight bump as the "GT" letters are ever so slightly raised on the 07. Found a cap from an 09 and it is perfectly smooth. SO will be taking one of my spare emblems and replacing the bumpy one.

Hoping to get the springs, shocks, lca relocation brackets and other cool lowering stuff on this week.
