stripes- vinyl or painted?

I've been interested in getting some 10" body stripes over my black V6. Should I spend the extra money to get them painted on or is vinyl just as good? I need yalls opinions, thanks!

paintpaint

I can tell you that with time vinyl will crack, peel, fade, and anthing else you can think of. Paint`em and be happy for the rest of your life.
Cheaper isn`t always better !

What color are you thinking of ? Mineral grey would be awesome !

How much is paint gonna cost (done right)?

I'm think either white or silver. I think white gives it that older classic look whereas the silver is more modern. I'm open to other ideas, like possibly the new red stripes available on the GT500

If money isn't an issue then get painted stripes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went with vinyl first and it lasted about 3 months.......primarily because of the installer who did the stripes. I went ahead and had them painted when I did the Shelby front end/hood conversion and I couldn't be happier. The shop that did my painted stripes did a great job. He scuffed the trunk, bumpers, top and hood, shot the stripes, then re-cleared the entire bumpers, hood, trunk and top. You can barely feel the edge of the stripes with your fingers. Screw vinyl. Get em painted!!!!!!!!! Not that you can tell much from the pics, but here are my vinyl stripes and my painted stripes. The painted stripes are a lighter silver. Also note that with painted stripes the stripes continue through the rear license plate recess, and arent "cut out" around it. Good luck!

Tungsten Grey would look really good on a black car too. If you can afford the paint I highly recommend that. I wanted high gloss stripes so that's why I went that route. Good luck on your decision.

No doubt about it,painted stripes last way longer and finding a good body shop that can lay out some nice graphics will take some time.Look around, get some estimates and references.

PAINT, the only way to go!
If you are looking at the white or silver, check out Fords Cashmere, its a pearl finish, a bit more expensive but looks great. For hood, small part of roof and rear, not the bumpers, mine were $1500. Dealer wanted another $1500 to do the bumpers, says they have to pull them off.

Red would look good on black, I like it better on white though. I've been debating getting some of the Roush or GT500 vinyls and applying them myself, just to get a feel for it (and they're only like 150 bucks) and see if i like it. Then remove them when I'm ready to put my car in the shop for some paint, new hood, body kit stuff and get it all done at once.

Someone mentioned earlier, the hardest part is finding a good body shop that will do it, and for a reasonable price. Good luck.

My BSM vinyl stripes are one year old... and I haven't notice any qualitiy decrease...
My Stang is parked outside all the day, I drive it all the year by all weather's conditions.
Try vinyl first ! you can stripe from bumper to bumper for 150$ (if you you do it yourself, a long good day of work!). If you aren't happy with vinyl you can paint it next year!

You can put red, gold, silver, dark grey, white or yellow stripes; all these colors are nice with a black Stang

My car is black with siver vinyl stripes. When the money is saved up, i will have blood red stripes painted on. My vinyl is 2 years old, and look the same as brand new, she lives inside though.

First off, let me say that yes paint is by far the better option. But you guys that are acting like vinyl sucks and is horrible should really reconsider your statements. Most of the problems that revolve around vinyl is the fault of the installation, not the vinyl itself. If you know what you're doing, then install it yourself. If you don't know, then PAY someone to install it.

If you purchase a good, quality 3M material, the average lifespan is 7 years. For alot of people here, that's longer than they'll own the car anyway. I've had vinyl installed for over a year now with absolutely no problems, including any fade or wear from temperature extremes (-5 to +100). And my total investment including the custom sidestripes is less than $200; for that money, I could re-vinyl the car 10x if needed and still have the same investment as paint, LOL!

Like I said paint is better overall but vinyl is a nice alternative IF its done correctly.

The dealer is always going to rip you on a paint job!!!! Find a respectable shop. I spoke with some and I was quoted 1200 for the whole car, bumpers and all. Good luck with the paint, vinyl sucks

What it sounds like I'm really looking for is a body shop that is willing and able to spend the time to give me a quality product, whether that be vinyl or paint. Vinyl would allow me to change my mind a couple times if I'm not happy with the color, but paint just looks so clean!
