spider cracks in paint?!

spider cracks in paint?!

i had my hood painted about 6months ago and when i was washing my car i noticed a spider crack in it!? what causes these cracks? is it my painters fault, or my hood?

Need a little more info. Was that the factory hood, repainted, or an aftermarket hood. If aftermarket, which one?

its an aftermarket hood the 3d carbon racer hood

Ya, I don't think it a fault of the painters. You might want to ask 3D Carbon about it.

not sure, but there is a lot of ford factory paint that cracks after a while. my sisters explorer, our f150, my fathers marauder all do it.

Welcome to the world of after market fiberglass hoods........I'm holding my breath, hoping my Trufiber hood doesn't do the same.

Thats common with fiberglass. Glass fender used to do that from stones in the tires comming out and hitting the fenders. Some thing might have hit that spot.

spider crack caused by air bubbles in the resin. you can prevent it by bake the hood before paint.

Well there is one other thing you can do now. The spray or roll on bed liner materal will absorb the shock and help prevent the brakes in the gell coat.
