I'm looking to make my first signficant change to my Mustang....a new set of tires.

I like the 17" Bullit wheels. The problem is that my Mustang is a year-round, daily driver. Regretfully, this includes driving in the snow. Which tires would be better in the snow, the V6 wheels or the GT's Pirelli tires. The Ford site says they are both all season, but the GT's are "performance all season." It's something about the word "performance" that doesn't say "good snow tires."

Also, can someone give me a definition of "GT takeoff tires." Does it literarly mean that the tires were taken off of a GT or does it mean that the tires took the design from the GT and they are actually replicas.

Finally, I found these on Ebay for $525. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...Y_BIN_Stores_IT. The seller is Cascotech and I've seen that named mentioned in this forum before.

But I also found the seemingly same tires here: http://www.cal-mustang.com/showdetl-7-9273-25-1.html. But those are selling for $850.

There's a big difference between $525 and $850. It makes me a little nervous that one site can sell it for far less than another company. Excuse my paranoia, but it seems a little suspicious.

Can someone please set the record straight? I would greatly appreciate it.

 

It's the same exact thing. I got mine from Casco and they are great. The other link is from a dealership, of course they are going to charge more. They are crooks.

 

Do you know where Casco gets there tires from, i.e. leftovers after Steeda mods their cars?

 

I believe so. Steeda takes delivery, pulls off all the parts they are going to change, and sells them to Casco. The cars aren't even driven before they take the parts off, except into the shop.

 

I got my bumpers and wheels from Casco, great buy. My tires had less than 200 miles on them, if even that. The little threads were still sticking off of them. I know several people that have bought from him with no issues.

I just got my GT takeoff bumper from Casco, fast delivery.

Just curious for those who ordered tires from him, how did he ship them to you? My bumper came by freight company and my father was lucky enough to be home at the time, otherwise i'm not sure what they woudl ahve doen with it, I know not leave it in front of the house.

 

A friend of mine works at a body shop, I had them ship it to him and he put them on for me. Otherwise I would make arrangements to be home.

 

Does anyone have advice on the snow/weather difference between the various tires?

 

When it comes to rain and snow I hear the Gislaved's are the best. I am looking into a set myself for the winter as this is my daily driver.

 

I'm looking into Bridgestone Blizzak's as well. I have a funny feeling since the Gislaved are imports, they will cost an arm and a leg.

 

Pirelli makes winter tires too, I'm trying to find review on them as well. I've been really happy with my pnero's on my car. Either way, its gonna cost a bit of change to get it ready for the winter.

It didn't take long to realize that this could quickly become pricey. But it'll probably be worth it. I'll have to do some looking around and see what works best, performance-wise and financially.

 

I will be keeping my 16's on ym car again this winter (can't afford 17"s until a little later in the year). I was impressed last winter while stuck driving home in the worst ice/snow storm that we had here on LI. The car handled very well. I think the whole key is to watch your speed and breaking times.

 

It didn't take long to realize that this could quickly become pricey.

to answer your "Take Off" question...Yes they take them off the stock cars, so they can put there Items on, then they sell the take offs to us to purchase

 

I bought the Pirelli's on EBAY and kept my stock 16's for winter. I've driven thru one snow storm so far and the 16's are very good. I was going to buy snow tires and put them on my stock rims, but financial circumstances prevented that. I say just put your 16's on and you'll be fine.

Just be careful and don't pretend that you can drive like you did when it was dry.

 

I bought 18's for my ride earlier in the year and they are not going to see snow for sure. I live in Cleveland and we had only about 130 inches of snow last year. Some of which the Mustang saw. I was looking into getting some snow tires, but the stock tires on the 16's actually work really well. Just watch the speed and break early as some folks have already mentioned.

 

P.S. the previous post was my first one here even though I joined a while ago. I post at Stangnet sometimes. Not a lot though, havent done too many mods to the ride but I like reading up on what folks are doing.

I bought Bullits as well but have not yet put them on. I was looking at the pirellis here.. 1010 Tires They seem to have some great deals. I only need 2 tires, Im wondering if I can use the Hankook Ventus HRII H405 ? Ther are the same size only they are "H" rated...not "Z" like the Pirellis. But on the V6 it shouldn't really matter????

 

I'll probably end up buying the Bullits in Feb. or March after the snow clears.

However...I'm not that confidence in my patience and my end up buying them on an impulse!
