Shelby Rear Fascia Install

I'm looking at installing one and know several members have already done this mod. Just wondering how hard it is to change bumper covers on the Mustang???? Any tip/hints would be appreciated since I can only find pics via search. Thanks.

It's not too hard, but you will have to transfer over a piece from the stock cover that's riveted on. I didn't have rivets the proper size, but what I had worked well enough. I'll probably take it back off someday and replace them with nuts/bolts (there's a suggested size in 05stangkc's thread on the covers).

You have 4 bolts inside the trunk, and 2 screws in each wheel well, then it snaps out (be careful pulling on the sides) and slides off. The new one (once the bracket is moved over) goes in just as easily.

Thanks for your reply Jayguy! Dumb question, but do you snap it off from the wheel well or from the center by the plate and does it pull straight off or do you have to lift up and out at the bottom corners??

Thanks

Both sides snap off right behind the wheel well, then it has to be pulled straight back. There are 4 bolts into the trunk, and a plastic alignment pin on each side just in front of the lights. I broke one of those off when I took the stock bumper off, and need to pull it all off so I can fix it some day. The side sticks out just a little, not really enough for most car owners to bother with, just enough to bother me.

The pin is in the area circled in this pic, so be careful when you get up there.

Thanks so much for the tips jayguy. One last question. Which direction is the alignment pin orientated in? Is it connected to the the fascia or to the car? Does it run length wise in the circled location or width wise? ie am I pulling straight back at the circled location or straight out away from the tires?

Thanks again, much appreciated

Sorry, I was away from the computer all night.

The pin points forward from the facia, just like the 4 bolts do. They're on the ends of the plastic bracket that goes the whole length of the rear facia, that needs to be transfered to the new one.

In fact there are 2 rivets on each end, above and below the pin, that need to be removed and replaced on the new facia. There's also some foam padding there, once you get the facia off, that I moved over, even though it wasn't sticky any more. Probably just there to prevent rubbing or squeaks, I guess.

I will be putting a GT500/GT-CS rear fascia on my v6. Will installation be any different than on a GT. I understand the v6 doesn't have a center bracket or doesn't make use of a center bracket. I just want to be sure, the dealership is going to be doing this for me, and they have already made a big stink about this so I want to make sure they have the proper information before they start in the next couple of days. I definitely will tell them to be extra careful of taking off the rear bumper because of the rivets but is there anything else I should tell them. Will they need to fab something up for the bumper to install successfully.

Sorry about asking this, but I'm a little bit of a newb and just want all the info possible to make sure this conversion goes swimmingly.

I think the only difference on the rear is the tabs on the bottom/center of the bumper. I think 05stangkc said something about the number of push-pins needed under the car is different, that's it. Check in his thread on the conversion, http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=54572

I added the GT/CS rear bumper cover to my 05 GT last July. I installed the bumper cover myself. The install was not difficult. The only PITA was transfering a wiring gizmo that feeds the side parking lights and light for the license, from the old bumper cover to the new one. There are about eight rivets that you have to drill out, then re-rivet. The whole install takes a couple hours the first time you do it. The OE rivets were about 1/4", which I couldn't find anywhere. Instead, I used 1/8" rivets with rivet washers, two washers per rivet, one on each side. Worked perfectly. Below is a picture of the wiring assembly/gizmo securely riveted to the new bumper cover.
