Damm!
You know I bought the first one and the body guy is still working on mine. Here I am thinking that he is taking his time with it. When I gave it to him I knew it would take work to make it fit, but I told him to call me if it was going to be over 2 grand. He hasn't called me yet with that kind of news. That price is also to paint stripes on the car though. I have pictures of the hood BRFORE he started working on it if you need ammo. I agree with you though. Some of us have to be the guinnea pigs to let the rest of the herd know what is going on. DON'T BE A BUNCH OF LEMMINGS ON THIS ONE!

If there is a moderator out there reading this I would pull that sticky down. Don't let anyone else fall for this hood. I have called RKSport a couple of times and e-mailed them twice. I received a reply once that said they were going to look into it.

Yes, I am definitely not getting this hood now nor any other product they sell. I would write down what has happened and send it to as many Mustang magazines you can, at least one would have to print it. When word gets out on their production line and customer service, such that it is, it will save a few more people.
:nono:

Really sorry to hear how much you both had to go through but glad you let the rest of us know.

Bryan

Thanks for the heads up. Sorry you are having a hard time with it.

Sounds to me that it would be cheaper & easier to take a stock hood & have a scoop system put on.

I'm sure your shop does good work, but 70 hours does sound excessive. That's almost 2 weeks of man power. I'm sure it doesn't take 70 hours to make that hood from scratch. I constantly see pretty hard hits on cars that cost thousands of $$$ to repaur & are completed in less then 70 hours.

CDC has a good reputation and good support.........but anyway.
Thats realy beat you had to go through that nightmare 2005RedGT.
In all my years working with fiberglass hoods(30+)Road Runners,Chevells.ect..the worst scenerio would be the hi-low spots around the scoops or cowls on these hoods and almost all the time, bad corner fits. But yours were extreme.

From what I sence in your post your hood had surface wave warping across the hood too(not uncommon but seems yours was severe). It's not surpriseing that it took that many hours to correct.
This is unacceptible.

I dont post much but I have been following your tech posts & updates regularly and I trust your judgement.

Hope things work out for ya.

Thats darn near show quality hours of work.

Thanks guys for the support. I was kinda weary about posting this - thinking it might make me look like a azzhole.

I will say, the shop I am using is a Hot Rod Shop, in the sense that they build very expensive custom cars, and do excpetional work. This will basically be show quality paint when done. That may have upped the price some, but everyone wants to have the best they can get if they are putting on a new hood.

$2800 (fixes) + $800 (hood + delivery) + $1000 (prep + shoot + clear) = $4600 total.

I know. This is the reason I am very unhappy. I expected the around 20 hours of labor to 'fix' the fiberglass issues. I had no basis to know that they would have to build up corners + spend 20 extra hours builing up low spots, etc.

Dood...... DOOD........ DOOD..........

I'm just...... wow......

That is just insane....... 300 more bucks and that's what I bought my '88 GT for back around 97 or so!!!

Bro, don't feel bad about posting this - that is just IN ZANE...... :bang:

Why do you think I am getting screwed for the paint / prep ? I don tknow how you can even make that judgement with-out seeing the hood ... nor do you know the shop I am dealing with. I will say, there are plenty of shops all over town, that could and would have done it for half that price, but I would not take my car there. They do mainly insureance claim type repairs. The shop I use build Street Rod show cars.

Please enlighten me

Hang in there Bryan. I know it is hard when people like that post but they haven't been there and done that. The man that is doing mine does the same thing and I have all the confidence in the world in his ability. I have seen some of the Hotrods he has done. In fact he has two of them in his garage with the trophies to go along with them. I am willing to see this project through to the end myself. I figure when I drop the KB in there that functional hood will come in handy. I already know that yours will be show quality because you won't have it anyother way. Can't wait to see your finished product.

i dont care what kind of work they do, i cant see spending over $500. labor in painting the hood, like i said it could be rough, but i have fitted and blocked a cincinatti composite hood, and they dont get any worse than that.

all that matters is that you think your getting a good deal, but ive seen cars be have a ENTIRE front end put on, painted, finished etc etc, to perfect condition, in 3-5 days

something sounds fishey about his labor rate also around here it is 60 an hour minimum, doesnt matter if it sthe guy doing the million dollar car for the concours de elegance, or the chain body shop doing crash repairs.

to each their own,

if just he hood cost 2800 in labor whats a street rod cost to get done

would be roughly 60k just in labor FOR PAINT WORK boyd coddington doesnt get that kind of money

I would agree, you are getting screwed on prep and paint. I paint cars, there is no way I could charge $1000. I just painted stripes on a 05 mustang from the bottom of f. bumper to the bottom of the rear bumper, with R&I time, and time to lay out stripes, also time for flat sand and buff was $1600. It just seems too high.

Just wanted to share my experiance with this hood, I received my RKsport hood yesterday, initial install was a breeze. Everything lined up well, it only required minor adjustments to fit perfectly. I put maybe a total of 5 hours into the installation, and only had to buy a $2 part (windshield washer hose) for it to be fully functional. The gel coat finish was superior, my body shop only had to prep one corner before they started the finishing work. All told, the hood cost me $615, shipping was $100, and finishing and painting was $450. I know this experiance was very different from yours, but I'm wondering if maybe my hood is from their second or third batch and they have improved the process from the first? I get her back from the body shop tomoroow and will post some more pictures of the finished product.

Hi Stugots22, I am glad to hear that your experience has gone so well. Lets assume that they are making a better product because of the stories they are hearing about from people like me

Get some shots up when it is all done
