Replacing antenna wire harness

Hey guys, I'm trying to replace the antenna wire harness on my car. I've looked through the forum for any threads on antenna removal, and it seems like the links don't work anymore after switching to the new forum. How do I disconnect the wire harness without removing the entire fender? Anyone that's removed their entire antenna able to help me out here? Thanks!

Hi INTRUDER, I think you forgot to post the information, I don't see it in your reply. Can you post it again? Many thanks!

I think if you remove the inner fender liner from underneath you can drop the harness out that way. You have to disconnect it from behind the glovebox and push it thought the grmmet in the firewall.

If you don't want to remove the whole wire, you can remove it from the bracket that the antenna screws in. It is just plugged into it, kinda tight, but it will come out.

I twisted off a cheap aftermarket shorty in the holder and didn't want to mess with replacing the cable.

Thanks Jwede! The part I'm looking to replace is really just the black plastic piece underneath the black plastic cap. Will the method you describe allow me to do that without having to replace the entire wire?

Yes it will. I had to replace that whole piece so what I did was take a screw driver and pry the two pieces that are crimped on to the orange antenna wire. Then I took a pair of pliers and grabbed the orange wire where it bends just before going into the antenna mount. Its tight but you can twist it back and forth and slowly work it out of the mount. There is just a plug on the end similar to what plugs into the radio. It saved me a lot of work. BTW, I have both parts incase you need replacements. I have the wire and the mount that I'd part with if needed.

If you want, I can post some pictures tomorrow.

Yes, please post the pictures if you can. I'd like to see how the base disconnects from the wire. Thanks a lot!

I was slightly mistaken, you don't uncrimp the thing holding the wire. Here is a pic, let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks, the pic was very helpful. I think I know where to disconnect it now. Hopefully the wire doesn't fall into the fender! I'll let you know you how it goes...

Thanks to everyone that's helped me on this, especially Jwede and CDGun. I ended up replacing the entire wire harness by removing the fender liner. It was quite a bit of work for one little thing, but in the end I guess it was kind of fun, because it was the first time I really "tore apart" the car. Thanks again for the help guys!
