Is it just me or is there a mixture of 05 mustang that either have all 3 lights per tail light that work or just 2 lights, does anyone know why this is? I really like all three working in the rear taillight and am wondering what to expect when mine arrives

They come stock w/ only the outer 2 working as brake lamps. Some of us (me included) have changed them so that all three function as both brake and tail lamps.

Edit to clarify: All 3 will function as tail lamps from the factory, but only the outer 2 will brighten for brake/turn signals from the factory.

From the factory:

All 3 light up when the lights are on

Only the outer 2 light up when you hit the brakes.

Some people have re-wired so that all 3 light up with the brakes as well.

(DOH! I was too slow)

Here you go. Let me know if you need anything else. Easy mod, great results, and cheap... one of my favorites.

Sequential kits also make all 3 light up when brakes are applied...
and obviously all 3 when signalling

Why did you need to order new sockets when all three sockets are already dual element?

From what i have read from the previous post you need the third wire that is not on the third socket.

CDC has a sequential kit, but i think most people (including me) ordered from http://www.webelectricproducts.com/.
You have the choice of Plug-N-Play (just swap the whole wiring harness) or the splice-together kit where you wire it up yourself and save some money.

Ford put a dual filament bulb in all 3 spots, but the inner most socket is single element... that's why it needs replaced. They probably used the same bulb in all 3 spots because it was either more efficient or cost effective.

yes the inner most light has 1 less wire. IT is a duel filament bulb but the socket doesnt support the brake light. the socket i mentioned above with the part number was for a chrysler. the reasoning for that is its the only one that is small enough and will sit flush with the back of the trunk considering there is less room behind this socker than the other 2 because of how thw trunk is shaped.
