Questions about painting trim
Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of painting my Moss/AVS slotted tail light covers flat black. I'm using Duplicolor Auto paint for trim (spray can). I prepped and primed the parts (scuffed, cleaned, apply adhesion promoter) and painted them with two light wet coats of paint. They look decent, however when I shine a flashlight behind the cover I can still see light bleeding through, albeit not as brightly as the unpainted cover, but still a decent amount of light bleed thru.
1) Is this how it should be, or should I keep adding coats of paint until the covers are completely opaque?
2)Also, should I add a coat or two of clearcoat to help preserve the finish from the elements?
Thanks
Mark

To tell you the truth, I did about three or four coats on the front, and then another couple coats on the rear. The 2-sided tape is already on there, so its not like its hurting anything adding a coat to the back. I'm far from being a paint expert, so I can't really advise on the clearcoat.
It the look you are after is matte or flat black as most would call it, I done the same as Michael and painted both sides with tape installed and that about the same time I done the SHR honeycomb panel and have never looked back. They go so well together I would not change a thing.
